I would like to build my own semi auto carbine. Ive already got a design on paper the barreled action would on its own measure 26.5'' and stocked it will measure 37.5''. it will fire from a closed bolt via a hammered trigger group. im thinking one from a sks at this point. but i may try to build my own if i can come up with something non convertible (pulling one from a legal semi seems like a safe move)
I plan on buying a match grade barrel blank for safety

It will be blow back operated i will find out bolt weight from a blow back firearm of the same caliber add a few oz and simply lighten it until it reliably fires the recoil springs will be something like the ar 180 setup i may even just order them

The entire barrel and action will be inside a square tube cut out to resemble the ppsh 41 all the parts will slide out the front end the back will be welded shut to prevent anything from being forced out in screw up the mag will be a 5 round stick inside a FAKE drum or a hand gun mag if thats still legal

to be honest this idea started with me running out of .32 short rim fire (had a box of 50 lasted 3 years) for my favorite rabbit/grouse gun and wanting a .25 apc rifle to replace it research has taught me that many experts dont even think .25 apc will make it out of a 19'' barrel let alone push a bolt hard enough to push down a hammer and i cant find blanks for it by that point i already had drawings and i desided if i cant have my rabbit gun i want something that looks like my favorite gun ill never own for plinking

i have done alot of research on how legal this is and it seems like im ok as long as it can not be easily be converted full auto or fired under 26'' but who desides what easy is and whats the best way to prevent it

tradeex has lots of 9MM barrels for the Suomi M31 Barrel in stock . $100.00 a piece...

Its illegal for me to use 12.5'' need 18.5'' 19'' for safety would have been good deal law says 18.5'' min for semi must not fire under 27''

Because i found out its legal to build NR guns and it seems like a cool project if i wanted to mod something id get a marlin camp carbine and legally use up to 10 round handgun mags

after a lot of research im going to start with something simple and not self loading i dont know what yet i know i dont want something normal

my reason is i have no idea what a CFO may call easily convertible (to full auto) and considering some of my guns put food on the table and i like my ''freedom'' i dont want to risk it till i know exactly what im doing if i do go the semi auto rote later i think sending my plans into the CFO would be my best bet

CFO is great at saying no, read around on here and you will see that guys are waiting 3+ years to get firearms back from the RCMP lab. good luck!

Your CFO isn't the office with which you would be dealing. It is the SFSS (Specialized Firearm Support Services) which would be pleased to accept your firearm for a couple of years while determining whether or not it is easily convertible.
If you use an established semi auto trigger design, there is no reason to get involved with them.
If you are capable of scratch building a semi auto rifle, you should be able to determine how easy it would be to remanufacture the thing to auto, and decide if it is easily convertible.

the thing im worried about is do they mean trigger operated full or any ability to go full most centerfire semis are capable of slam firing with the firing pin locked

i know that may seem like a stupid question but logic left canadas government a long time ago i dont want to get in trouble over a hobby

i think i came up with a single shot design it would be a lever and have a sliding breech. when you pull the lever down the breech would slide down for you to put a round in.
The firing pin would be captive inside the breech and would use a hammer to fire. I would use a similar ejector to a break barrel shot gun hell i could just use the whole barrel and have a cool little 410

That may seem pointless to most people why build a single i could buy for $50 Its the same reason i build my own motorcycles RC planes radios and parts for my roofing nailer (i miss when they used to last forever) I like building ####
