I was bitten by the German 45 bug

I received my Walther PPQ 45 on Wednesday. Big thanks to Kelly's Sporting Goods for an amazing price and super fast shipping!

I christened it yesterday and I was really impressed with the crisp trigger and the soft recoil of the PPQ. My previous exposure to the .45 caliber was with a Sig Sauer 1911, and from memory, recoil felt noticeably stronger on the Sig (maybe the owner was using +P ammo?).

I started chatting with another member at the club who was shooting a H&K USP 45. Anyway, long story short we exchanged guns for a couple of magazines. While I did enjoy shooting his USP, the experience made me appreciate my PPQ even more. The trigger on the PPQ just felt better, and again, the softer perceived recoil of the PPQ was very noticeable.

This far, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I have absolutely no regret, especially considering the amazingly low price for which I got the gun.

To be honest, the only down side to the PPQ 45 is the cost of ammo vs 9mm, but that soon won't be a problem the moment I start reloading.

I now have 400 rounds through the PPQ 45 and I thought I'd share my opinion so far.

At first, I had concerns that the .45 ACP round would be a strong-recoil round and that this would limit my range time with this gun. Boy was I wrong. While I wish I had put more rounds downrange, it's not because of the strength of the recoil, it's simply because .45 ACP ammo costs almost double of 9mm. Until I start reloading, I won't be able to put as many rounds through the gun as I do with my 9mms.

Anywho, the PPQ 45 is a tack driver. The trigger is simply out of this world. When I practice dry firing, I see much less side-to-side movement of the front sight than any of my other guns. In fact, I'm more accurate with it than with any of my 9mm or .22 guns, and the recoil barely feels stronger than on my H&K SFP9.

So much so that I now feel like getting a PPQ in 9mm, but I like diversity and I'm not crazy about having the same gun in two different calibers. There is also the fact that our choice of PPQ in 9mm is either the 5 inch barrel model, or with threaded barrel. Neither looks as good as the 4" model available in the rest of the world.

Yeah, First World problem, I know.

Stay tuned for my 1,000 rounds update.

Thanks. good feedback.
If you want a 9mm that is a little different, Walther just introduced a steel framed version.
