I was hunted by a pack of yotes

I hunt coyotes on a farm near Orangeville, the farmer who owns the land told me the coyotes ate about 8 of his sheep and 2 german sheppard puppies, that really pissed me off, so I have been up there pretty much every weekend for the last 3 months. Excluding deer season, and a short bout with the flu.

On saturday I got there about 3pm, setup a chair by a tree very close to his storage shed, overlooking a big field. I setup my electronic caller in the field about 100m from me. Counted the steps back to my tree.

It started to get dark, when I was finished setting up my chair, rifle, flashlights etc. Then I turned on the caller, sat down and relaxed. The sun was almost down when out of nowwhere I heard something that sounded like a pack of wild horses running towards me. I quickly jumped out of my chair grabbed my Remington 700 in .223. Looked towards the directon of the sound, and I could not believe my eyes. 4 COYOTES RUNNING RIGHT AT ME IN A STRAIGHT LINE, it was like something out of a movie when you see calvary running at a standing army. Their heads were close to the ground ears tucked in, tails low, running fulll speed straight for me!!! I put the gun up to my shoulder and just fired, I missed but it was enough to bust up their pack. 2 went running to the left, side by side, the other 2 went running to the right side by side. I rechambered another round, but by then they were too far away for a safe shot, plus they were in full sprint running away from me, again tails tucked in between their legs, heads low to the ground.

My heart was pounding!!!!! I have never experienced anything like this, exciting as hell!!!!!! I never felt more alive, it was a once in a lifetime feeling. I was both scared and pumped if that makes sense. After that little experience, I went to the farmers shed, grabbed a ladder and climbed the tree I was sitting under. I spend 3 hours after the sun went down in that tree, waiting for more action. I saw more yotes but it was hard getting the flashlight on them and aiming at the same time. I only saw individual yotes after that rush. They did howl to find eachother though, if I had a shotgun I would have gone after them, but with the bolt action I didn't feel like tempting my luck.

Here is why I think they were comming after me, and not the electronic caller:
I was out deer hunting 2 weeks ago and had spilled some doe urine on my hunting boots, the boots were stored in my garage in a garbage bag. My guess is they thought I was a deer. No hard feeling on my part, but next time I'm sitting with a shotty, not letting an opportunity like this go to waste ever again.

So just a heads up to all other yote hunters, be careful they are smart, organized, and fast!!!! I'll be out again next weekend, on my birthday hoping to bag myself a nice birthday pelt!!!!

2 german sheppard puppies, that really pissed me off,

Damn straight... I live in NS and if I had the $$$ would love to come up and blast those f**kers. But unfortunately I only own restricteds. My AR would have been handy that night.

God damn, that would get the blood flowing though!

um you might want to re read the regulations on hunting times..i do believe it states half hour before sun rise or half hour after sunset..i do believe there is an exception for coon hunting..

You can shoot them at night for protection of property, as its not classed as hunting. However, I don't think that includes using a caller or bait.;)
As well, it likely doesn't extend to friends of the farmer, only himself or immediate family.

Before this turns into a debate on night hunting let me clarify, I was hunting before the sun went down, after the sun was down I was simply going on the excitement of the event, yes I was up on a tree, yes I was looking for them, and yes the caller was still on. I wanted to see how the pack that came after me would act, just wanted to make sure they were not aggressive towards humans. Plus it was a ####load of fun, and I didn't want it to end.

Ps next time I'm bringing my dominion outlaw, heh, double barrels loaded with 00 buck. Giddy up!

Noting about this suggests they were "hunting" you. They simply happened to be moving in your direction without knowing you were there. After you made your presence known, they f'd off.

If what you described is being "hunted" then I've been hunted by coyotes, foxes, wolves, bears, deer, mink and an overly affectionate chinchilla.

Pattern that Outlaw on some cardboard sheets before you go else you'll miss em again. Mine doesn't shoot where I'm pointing - shoots everything high. I gotta get a front ramp installed I guess.

And BTW when your calling predators everything coming your way is hunting you. Exciting and creepy all at once. Big nasty cats, great horned owls and hawks for instance all make their appearance from where you least expect them - like almost in your lap sometimes. It sure is a rush.

I'm just saying....

Agreed. This just sounds like a good response to the calling.

I couldn't be happier that my home made electronic caller worked this well, I just have to adapt a remote for it and it will be mint.
And to all the fudds who think I was breaking the sacred rules of hunting, I'm sure you guys never stayed out a bit longer while having a ton of fun.... So instead of ripping on the details enjoy the story.

When I say they were running straight for me full speed I am not exaggerating, and the fact my caller wasd 100 meters away from me in the opposite direction didn't really make me feel safe to stay on the ground.

Anyhow I put this up as it was a great experience that I wanted to share with the rest of the community.

I hunt the exact same location. Coyotes around here are bold as hell! I seen tracks in the mud between our barn and house yesturday. Only 20 yards from the house and 30 yards from the barn. They come up every night, had 2 coyotes barking at us in the barn during shotgun week back in earily Nov. They were probably 150 yards from the house right at dark, barking and yipping at us. I could see them threw my binos(it was a full moon) I was VERY tempted to shoot them, would of been pretty easy.

they like full moons! really spooky feeling. I would bring a 12 ga. with no.4 buck (3" shells), along with a .223 scoped. They take lots of fawns around here. Saw lots of tracks today.
