 I just got back from a trip to Montana where I was checking out a couple scopes that I can't find in Canada. I had a look at the Vortex Razor Gen II 3-18x50 and the price tag was $2200!!!! Compared to $3300 in Canada!!! Even with exchange, I could buy the scope for $2860 CDN in the states whereas I'm looking at $3630 in Canada after tax.

I was so tempted to try and bring it back but didn't really want to spend the rest of my life in an American prison and be on the No fly list haha. Everything in Canada that's firearm related costs so much more and I really don't like it. Wish I could find that scope for like $2500 in Canada but I think that's a pipe dream.

I always find it crazy how much cheaper everything is in the states too. Food and booze especially. 12 packs of PBR for $9 , 26'er/fifth of Jack Daniels for $17, huge steak dinners with all the fixings for $20 , DIRT cheap fast food everywhere.
Literally most everything is cheaper really but like has been mentioned it's a huge market and population with high consumerism. Still makes you scratch your head sometimes though on how big the price gap is.

life is hard .... 300 millions against 35 millions on the market speaks about volume ....
While that may be true, All car makers will meet California emissions just to satisfy California which means everyone else in the USA pays for that as their car will have California emissions standards. There are just a couple million more Californians than Canadians and if our emissions standards were higher than California, What then, would they make all cars equal in emissions to our standards. Who knows, I will say my kawasaki motorcycle is California emissions approved as it's easier for Kawasaki to meet the toughest emissions out there. As to scopes from the USA, they will say export fees, import fees and lots of middleman fees.

Call Prophet River and get them to import it for you.

I just had a look at Prophet River's website and it says on their import page that there's an 8.5% duty for an item that wasn't manufactured in the USA. So would I pay this or go by the CBSA document that says there's no duty on scopes?

On scopes, there is no duty, just the 5% GST in most cases. On most firearms, there is a 3.5% duty if not NAFTA, plus the 5% GST.

That is very "clever" because highest anything firearm related is 7%. Of course, middle man wants to protect himself .

I think he saw this in our 'estimate' area on website. We charge only exactly what CBSA charges us. The 8.5% is the combination 5% GST and 3.5% duty. Rarely a firearm can be 7% but it can happen on specific onesand CBSa changes things in the system more than we like. Currently all scopes are 0%, however, ammo can be 17%!!

What I've noticed is the huge differences in price from one dealer to the next. Anything from 100 odd bucks up to 300+ and we're talking sub- $2k scopes here. I'll grant that it does hurt to read about a $1600 scope you're buying as a sub $1k scope on snipers hide... I miss the dollar being at parity

It always depends what you are buying. We get calls all the time from the US, where people want to buy our P210s, Swiss Lugers, and Unique Alpine rifles because our prices are so much lower than theirs.

Buahhahahahhaha.... let us trade them then. They can have all of that at our prices and we can have everything else at theirs. Ammo, guns, reloading components, accessories, gear...etc...etc...etc.
