I was wrong once (maybe), and this is me admitting it.

So, I have been guilty of being a complete Sig / 1911 snob for a number of years. After one, maybe two experiences with Glocks, I never bothered to pick one up again, even when offered a chance to shoot someone else's at the range. Recently, I discovered the Glock IOP programme, and decided I should pick one up and really get to know it to see what all the fuss is about. Glock does after all, hold a huge market share in North American pistol sales and there must be a reason. The other reason was that the Gen 4 is reported to be a good fit for people with small hands, like myself.

So my brand new Glock 22 arrived today (CP actually delivered it to my door rather than leaving a delivery slip in my mail box! Woohoo).

First impression: Holy crap, what have I been missing?! Yes it's ugly, yes the plastic feels cheap. But this gun fits soooo well in my hand. I can actually hit the mag release without turning the pistol. The trigger (after about 50 dry fired over snap caps) is nothing like I remember, it's great. The polymer frame highlighted something else to me. The slide was freezing cold when I took it out of the box, but the frame hardly felt cold at all. Compared with my Sigs, which get too cold to touch without gloves, this is awesome. Unless this pistol turns out to be so inaccurate it becomes unusable, I think I'm in love.

Before all you Glock fanboys start cheering too loudly, I still love my Sigs and will likely keep them forever. There are still certain things that Sig does better.

I just thought I'd put that out there for my fellow Sig fanboys, perhaps there is enough gun-love to go around after all.

Glocks are good, and that nylon frame can take a lot of abuse.

I just wish the grip wasn't so blocky. With my meaty palm and stubby fingers, I find this difficult, though I haven't tried one of of the Gen 4s, yet.

You should try one. My memory of the Gen 3 and earlier was that the grip was pretty bad. IIRC the "medium" backstrap that comes with the Gen4 is supposed to be the same size as the earlier models, and it does feel a bit big for me. The small is the best fit of any pistol I've held other than a single stack 22.

I rented a full sized Glock in Detroit a couple years ago, no clue what series it was, but I didn't care for it. Tried an M&P and liked it better. Then a Kimber 45-loved it. I love an all steel/metal pistol. I'm a Sig guy as well, but I'm not a snob. I'd try a new Gen 4 if someone let me at the range. I'm up for anything. Even owning one if I fell in love with one. I definitely don't like the looks of it, cheap and homely looking but I have an open mind to everything.

They are good dependable guns. Not knocking anyone who owns them. If the OP likes it, good for him. Make another collection but segregate them (just kidding).

My friend picked up a 19 in the states and said it felt fantastic in his hands... I told him to buy it (so I can try it) ;)

i was in the same boat...long time sig/1911/hk fan...shot glocks a few years back and didn't see what the big deal was - liked the m&p better for some reason.

i recently acquired a glock in a trade, and after taking it out to the range and putting some more time on it, i quite enjoy it (its a keeper). fits comfortably in my hand, nice trigger - its a gen 3 G22

Try a gen 4 19/23, they fit small hands much better than the 17/22 series. I find the 17 to be like holding a 2x4, but my 19 fits my hands very nicely.

It's always good to have an open mind. I was in a similar situation and wanted to hate Glock with no first-hand experience - I thought they were ugly and of course they represent just about everything non-1911. But I could not deny the Glocks popularity and, not wanting to be a pervayor of second and third hand information, I bought a Gen 2 G22 on a whim (it was cheap). The Glock just kinda "clicked" for me and now I have several Glocks, including Gen 2, 3 and 4's.

You're right about inexpensive. A Glock addiction would be a heck of a lot cheaper than my current Sig fettish. Can't wait to get mine to the range.

While I'm not big on polymer pistols, I do appreciate the Glock and think that any gun nut should have one in their collection... myself included. Just not on the top of my "Must Have" list but somewhere in the middle. :)
