I wish someone would have told me...

I was born into shooting, hunting and guns, but i wish someone had told me back then which guns would become collectibles.

Someone told me how much fun I was going to have shooting, that I would keep buying more guns, all of which serve a different purpose, that I would enjoy reloading because it is an art in and of itself, that shooting is a rather expensive hobby and that some day some arsehole would introduce me to IPSC. He was right on all of the above. The only thing is that I didn't believe him at the time. If I had believed him I probably would have ran away and never touched another gun. LoL

Welcome to CGN!

Is there anything you wish someone had told you when you started shooting? Hi, everyone. I am new to the community and relatively new to shooting. I shoot a lot of pistol and some rifle. I am looking for any tips for a new shooter that you wish someone had told you. Even if it’s very basic. I’m not proud I’ll listen to anyone. Thanks.

Yes
Buy a automatic firearm wile you still can !
Had the chance but blew it

Most important thing to remember is that internet advice is worth what you paid for it. :p

Go shooting, learn from doing. About 80% of the experts you'll find on these forums have never actually done most of the stuff they give advice about. They're just repeating what they read on a forum some place.

I guess the best advice I can offer you is, when you have a gun in your hands use common sense and the rest will all fall into place. Enjoy shooting it's one of the most addictive drugs out there and they're trying their best to make it illegal

1) Practice what veteran shooters say regarding safe handling of firearms. They knew long ago what the safety courses are just now trying to teach new shooters.

2) Never underestimate the power of stupid people (the antis) who are trying to take away our hobby piece by piece (magazine limits, prohibs, AR-15s being restricted etc.).

3) There is no such thing as owning too many Cooeys or Lee-Enfields. :)

4) That it is vital that we promote the shooting sports to young people. Welcome, young fella!
