I Wish They Made Something Like This

Takes 10 secs to assemble the chiappa as well, inset barrel, twist tight (90 degrees) screw in mag tube. Nothing to it. But I agree, better off slung or in a scabbard. I think we can all agree 45-70 is adequate for whatever you may face. And with 4 more in the tube the firepower over a break action in a pistol calibre is no contest. The biggest thing for me was less about backpacking and more about discreet transport, no one expects a 45-70 to come out of such a small case.

What about Yogi? He's got Boo Boo's back, doesn't he? :p

Nope, That's Mr.Ranger and I am sure he will not be very happy about that!
Snorted my latte/ capachino/ extra double shot through my nose and the Harley dealer is giving me the stink eye right now.

On a side note, I forgot to mention another fine Survival Carbine and that is the Aero Survival Rifle.
Comes in 9 mm, 40 cal, 45 cal and the coupe de'grace the venerable 10 mm, but the Secret Service and FBI are going to something less lethal and doesn't do the pass through.
ymmv of course.

;)

Similar to the JR Carbine, non-restricted and takes 10 round Glock magazines.

Wow a thread about easy to pack single shots became about bear defence in only two pages, probably not even a record either

That's just you jumping to conclusions that's all.
Single shot schmeingle shots.
Either of the Carbines mentioned above will give you more chance to miss after the first shot, err I mean to acquire the target after ranging the first fouling shot.
Seriously though, my comments about being ready are just that as the rifle of choice in the thread topic is just as if not heavier than those I speak of and that is fully loaded ready to go.

Tight Groups,
Rob

Takes < 10 seconds to assemble my Survivor. What situations require a shorter time to remove it from your pack and get it assembled?

You hear crashing in the bush ahead of you. 10 seconds is a long time.

Lol I had that happen to me once. A moose cow came out. It really looked like it was going to trample me. I backed away slowly. Eventually it walked off. Heck 10 seconds is too long for most circumstances.

Also this thread isn't a bear defence one.Its a a thread for a good folding single shot .44mag

I apologize, didn't see the not a chiappa in the op... don't see any lacking quality on mine but to each their own.

+1 for a Chiappa Mares leg. 357 or 44 mag. 24" full assembled. two 12" pieces when broken down. 5 second assembly.

Back pack, scabbard, holster, slung, in the hand, lots of good ways to carry a light, tight rifle with bite.

I picked up a blown barrel for a Cooey 84 in 12G and cut it down to 19inch's. Put fixed Tritium sight's on it and a sling on the side. Painted with Tremclad.
Make's a great Blueberry gun!

Also good for use at nite with a brite lite, right? Maybe not quite if your build is slight?

I carry a rossi ranch hand with a full stock in 44. Its marginally longer than most any folded firearm, its short, light, fast to cycle, has an excellent trigger, is a repeater, packs a decent wallop and with a peep sight its quite accurate. For years i packed a 19" cil 12 guage with a slug up the tube, the rossi is much nicer to pack in my honest opinion.

I carry a sxs 45/70. It does fold but it comes apart
I've been charged by a bear. By the time you pull out your folding gun and load it its too late. You'd be better off with a large knife
I get what you're after but a defensive tool should be at the ready
When I feel I need protection my sxs is in my hand. Carries light and points like a fine shotgun. Hits hard to. It's saved my ass once so far and also deterred a rather angry sow. She was huffing and puffing until the right barrel barked. Sand flipping 3' in front of her turned her fast. The left barrel was ready if she came my way fast

The keltec 2000 folds and takes 10 round mags. I realize its blowback action
The areo survival takedown offers 10 mm auto and 357 sig

A short barreled 12 ga with slugs works great if you practice enough. The sound of the pump will deter most 2 legged threats. 3-4 shots should handle most situations well

I have faith in my jrc 9mm with mags of fmj and mean hollow points but then again I carry it. It's equipped with a carry handle and flash light as well as a red dot and back up irons
I hope I never have to use it for defense but it's comforting to know I have it and 4 extra loaded mags on my belt and one in the gun

When I am backpacking in wilderness areas, I carry a rifle. It might be an old 303 or it might be any one of a dozen other rifles. Some are shorter; some are longer. Some are light; some are not. I figure, if I need the rifle, I need it in my hands. If I can stow it on or in my pack, I probably don't need it at all; at least I should hope I don't.

45 colt runs at about the same pressure as a .410 , but doesn't fit the bore
A proper barrel whould be an easy swap for a folding single shot .410
