For those that don't know, its cheap Russian 124 gr 7.62x39 hollowpoint ammo that nearly equals premium hunting ammo in performance.

Here in North America its marketed by TulaAmmo, although Tula Ammo Canada doesn't seem to carry it (or anything besides 7.62x39 ball).

What's wrong with the Barnaul Hollow Points you can get at Cabelas and elsewhere? (aside from the fact its Cabelas and they are getting too pricey for my tastes)

Looks very similar to the Dominion hollow points that were kicking around before the events in Ukraine. The stuff that came in little white boxes with blue writing.

Very explosive results. Would take out 3 milk jugs, but recovered material was very little. Obviously milk jugs dont trap shrapnel as well as gel... If by hunting bullet, the OP means something for varmints, then I would agree. But in my testing it is not suitable for deer. I'm uploading pics/vid to photobucket now, when its done I'll add them here so you guys can see my results. In fact, straight from the TFB blog linked, "It’s not a great choice for hunting, either."

I'm not too familiar with the Barnauls, but 8M3 appears to be the only low cost HP in the caliber that's consistant as far as terminal performance goes.

What sort of terminal performance are you looking for? Because they look like the sort of thing that would be good for shooting coyotes or 2-legged "game" not for big game hunting purposes.

Heres what I could recover after shooting milk jugs. 3 shots, this was the biggest I could come up with. Most of it veered off course and exited the sides of the jugs. (there is a decimal point you can't really see, that reads 19.9 not 199 grains)

Heres what they look like hitting the jugs at 20-25 yards.

To compare, here is a federal blue box 130gr hitting milk jugs. (which retained 89 grains)

If it's the same stuff that I'm thinking about, you could buy that in the "milk carton" packaging in the '90's. I think I still have a couple of those. Around the same time, the Czech stuff on stripper clips was somewhat hard to find, Sold in 20 round packs marketed by "Pragotrade"

Not my pictures, but this is what the packaging looks like

Thanks for those.

Down south, they're popular on hogs and to some extent even for deer hunting, so they're not limited to varmint type game.

I'd mainly want it for pest control, yes including zombies if need be, and for defending myself from those fearsome pumpkins and water jugs.

I don't think that's them.

One way to tell is to look for cuts on the inside of the jacket, which can be seen or felt on the inside of the open tip.

If you look really hard, you can see some slits on the inside of the jackets on the ones I have. Its not very prominent, I doubt it would show up on a phone camera. I am sure these would kill a small hog or deer, but that would be situational at best IMO. I certainly wouldn't want to be chasing down feral hogs with them, but if I was just blasting them under a feeder they would be suitable for that.

That could be them or something similar, its too bad they're no longer offered.

I'm surprised we aren't getting more ammo out of the Ukraine, especially with the current exchange rates. If ever a country needed hard currency its them.

I have heard the factory is in rebel-held territory. Could just be hearsay, but it would explain it. I've thought about holding onto a few boxes of mine, I'm sure they'd do nicely on coyotes if I can ever get my SKS to shoot better. Right now I wouldn't trust it to shoot anything past about 75 yards lol (although Im probably half of the problem) Currently they do nicely on my gong, so we'll have to wait and see...

The factory was seized by rebels. I remember CanAm saying that a while ago & they could not replenish their stocks anymore.

There was two types of rounds coming from Ukraine - milsurplus USSR made of good quality and newly made commercial from Lugansk factory (LPZ) - under different brands, including Dominion. Surplus is kinda needed there more than here, and factory is gone. So no imports. Anyway LPZ quality was so-so compared to USSR made quality - it was still made on worn and outdated Soviet machinery. China is our hope so far.
P.S. Unless some well known German company releases it's stashes, I think they have more than all ex-Eastern block combined. Their business model is buy low today, sell high 10 years later.
