I was attachign the stock to a rifle, and I dropped it on my bench, where I think the VX III 4.5-14 Varmit Reticle scope banged something hard, liek a pair of piers that were sitting there...

I screwed the stock in and GASP the objective bell housing now has a dent on the edge!!:(

I need to look through it in the dayligth to see if there is some damage to the glass, too..

Just moutned that scope a couep of weeks ago, it is brand new....

I'll post a pic soon...I was prety surprised, since there was no dramatic BANG or anything, just a clunk...

Sorry to hear that Gatehouse :(. Hopefully there is no damage to the glass. I know if that had happened to me I would be very pissed as I am sure you probably are.

Yup.... That is an OUCH +

I don't know about leupold, but one of my swarovski scopes took a bad fall and suffered a dented eyepiece. The scope was promptly repaired and returned at no charge.

Bummer, maybe if you wrap some tape around the end to protect the finish and put a hoseclamp on it, you could then somehow use a spreader to push the dent out. You'll probably want to cover the glass to protect it.
Some flip up scope covers might still fit and cover it up.
Looks like scope covers might have prevented it too
Hope it's not damaged beyond the cosmetic.

I will take a better look at the optics themselves tonight, I htink they are undamaged.

However, i wonder about the seal etc.

My buddy arrived just after I did it and said "Put on some Butler Creek flip ups":p

I ave them on all my other scopes, and I thik that they woudl have indeed protected the scope in this case.

I just got the scope, haven't had a chance to stick scope covers on yet:redface:

If the seal/optics are damaged, I woudl imagine Leupold may warranty it. They do have a pretty good warranty from what i understand:)

You would be surprised at what Leupold will do to uphold their claim to have the most unbreakable scopes on the market................ I am sure they will fix you up gatehouse they have done similar stuff for me..............

On the plus side though, it looks almost Like one of thier fancy new low profile ones!! ;)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, mount it upsidedown and tell everyone that it's a Eclipse.

That's a damn shame with a brand new Leupold scope like that. Hope your warranty works out, or like others have said, you can just get a replacement for the front end of it and do it yourself.
