Classification is a mess! Not going to disagree. Anybody with common sense knows that many of the "Prohib" classifications have no basis in fact: The GSG-5 comes to mind. It should be remembered however that because of this mess, occasionally we get the benefit. The "Ranch Hand" is one of those few. The Remington/Norinco/Dominion shotguns with 12 and 14 inch barrels are another one. Being gun owners we also know that we take advantage of these few benefits that we receive, and to a great extent keep our mouths shut. If they ever did redo the classification system, and clean it up, there's a good chance that we would loose many of the loop-holes that we presently take advantage of.
I often hear people talk about the confusing firearms laws and the mess that has been made of the classification system. Often they seem to think that by simplifying it all that everything would work to our advantage, and would be done the way "We" think it should. Unfortunately it has the potential to go just the opposite, and take away many of the perks that we have been able to get from the system because it's messy. My Daddy used to say, "Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it!"
