Well a featherweight is a model 12 and it is a takedown so that ends that . A model 25 is not a model 12 so why would that even be mentioned besides the 25 has different internal workings but of course you would not find that info on the net so that would not be commonon knowledge . Many people have found out about the slam fire feature in a negative way . I don't know what happened I closed the action and the gun went off . Had many a guy bring thier model 12 into the shop complaining something was wrong with the gun told them you had your had on the trigger NO I didn't then you show them and they turn red with envrassment . Another model 12 feature is the tapered firing pin it is the only shotgun that will work with a broken firing pin all others have a cylinder type pin when they break the front portion comes out of the front of the bolt .
If you look at old Winchester catalogs you will see in the adds that a standard model 12 is marketed as a take down gun
the model 12 featherweight adds make no mention of it being a takedown it marketed as a featherweight.
The biggest difference right off the bat between the featherweight and the M12 iis that the featherweight barrel comes off but the M12's barrel and forend both detach at the same time, making it shorter when disassembled.
maybe that is why the featherweight was not advertised as a "take down".

I hear the frustration of ads stating the obvious about a Model 12 shotgun. It is the same frustration that I feel when advertisers don't state the non-obvious - like gauge, choke, or barrel length.
I have my doubts about sellers that cannot even look at the gun they are selling to spell the maker's name correctly.
