I'd like a glock 23...

I would also like to know this as well.

A handgun barrel equal to or less than 105mm is a "prohibited device". Simply being in possession of (knowlege of, and a measure of control over) such an item is a criminal offence (unless you have licence under which you may possess it). Section 84 of the Criminal Code defines "prohibited device". Sections 88-96 set out a whole slew of offences relating to possession of (among other things) prohibited devices.

Can you purchase a compact or sub-compact Glock without a barrel or is it still considered prohibited based on what the barrel size is stock?

My biggest question is importing. I'm a US citizen so I can buy a G23 and just replace the barrel with a complying barrel. If I were to do that and if I had my restricted PAL, could I just bring that into Canada?

The Gen2 looks in better condition then the Gen3

Gen 2 FTW! I have hands that don't fit the bumps. A bit a grip tape and you are GTG. Way better... Love mine. Snappy little beast with hot handloads. I'd love a 29 eventually.

I don't see why not. You would get it verified at import. If it meets the requirements of a restricted firearm you should be good.

Thanks Ghostie-can't wait till I pick up my copy of Martin's Anual next month :)

btw mchaley; call the CFC/Canada-US customs & ask them, take down names and id #s.

Get them to walk you through the process.

People on this website are very helpful, but you should ask the organizations who
enforce these laws IMHO.

Can you post pics of Gen 2 vs Gen 3 (pref. the G23)? Also, can you post a pic of the Canadian G23? I did a search but they looked the same to me... which makes me think I've done it wrong :)

I def. agree. Being in Japan makes it tough for now.

Maybe it has no bearing on the conversation, or maybe it's kinda what lazedout is saying....
I just thought of something (bare with me, I'm just starting my first cup of coffee for the day) :p

On a Glock, the actual "firearm" is the frame, right?
- It's the frame that is registered, I can walk around all day with the slide and barrel in my hand but not so with the frame.

So...what if I wanted to register/import a 'firearm" that didn't have a barrel? (similar to an AR lower) Is that possible? How would that be classified? (Restricted I'm guessing) Then just order a "Canada compliant" barrel and drop it in...no verification required. right? no jumping through hoops, no trying to argue with RCMP/CBSA/CFC/CFO's

This is exactly what Questar does. Brings in frame and barrels seperate then installs 106mm barrel. Verification?? Maybe. You would have to phone CFC and tell them the barrel lenght for the certificate.

Here is an example of a 2nd gen G23 with a canadian length barrel. The gen three has finger grooves... Sorry I don't have a picture.

That's not too bad. I was getting worried when I saw some barrels with compensator on the ends of them. I had a gen 3 G23... I want another one. :)
