Hmm. I'll look around for a G23 on some of the sites here. At this point I'm thinking it's a no go.

I'll have to try to find a list of prohibited firearms. I did see a list somewhere at one point. The only factors that determine a restricted from prohibited pistol are mag capacity and barrel length, right? (I think .25 and .32 cals are also prohibited). If I'm right, bringing in anything with a restricted PAL should be fine, right?

That's not too bad. I was getting worried when I saw some barrels with compensator on the ends of them. I had a gen 3 G23... I want another one.

No it is not bad at all. Less than a quarter inch projects from the slide. I have a Sig 2340 that looks really stupid with a half inch plus hanging out there...

So just a recap.

The G23 is prohibited by name, even if it doesn't have a barrel installed, but simply because it was originally manufactured with a prohib barrel. (this is actually RCMP policy, not law )

A barrel less than 105mm is itself a prohibited device, even when it is not installed in a gun. (Law)

Whether you import just a barrel, or the entire gun, the cost is basically the same, because of the cost of the US export permit and paperwork by the approved/licensed US exporter.

I am not certain how you would go about getting a modified G23 verified and imported, but am sure there are some bureaucrats who have devised some very expensive, and time consuming way of doing it.

There are many guns that are prohibited by name. (you know, anything that looks evil and makes liberals tremble and faint simply by mentioning them by name, etc....)

Thanks for all of the info. It really seems like buying something NOT on the prohibited list is the way to go for now.
