I'd like to try a 44 magnum

I shot 1 today...it was awesome, but I don't think its something I would want to own just yet

... Perhaps worth consideration, but the 44 magnum is widely available in "Lever Guns", and even though hard to find, also in Semi Auto Carbines ( Ruger) .... David K

Semi auto carbine? Tell me more

if you are thinking about it, just buy one, you won't regret.. .. go for a S&W , nothing else ....
I have a 44 magnum ranch hand but I can't shoot it one handed because of the angle of the stock, I'd like to try a real handgun. I tried the s&w 460, 500 and desert eagle 50 ae I know those are not for me, I'm trying to find a comfortable /big punch gun.

.... Ruger produced their 44 Magnum Carbines with both the Magazine version and one with a a tube fed magazine ( Deerfield ).. Very handy little Carbines, and I'd like to have one myself. Regrettably, but they don't often come up on the market, and when they do, a little out of my price range. ......I think if Ruger were to reintroduce them into the Market, there would be buyers for them. Niche perhaps, but there never the less. ...... David K

If you reload, you can shoot cast lead really cheap out of one and place enough powder to be tame or wild. Different 44s react different depending on the frames and weight.

If I could afford it, I'd have had a S&W M-29 a long time ago. That's such a beautiful revolver. The target hammer and trigger are so easy on the hands. If you're into heavier loads, then any Ruger in 44 will suit you very well. The Blackhawk was the first revolver chambered in 44 Magnum. Elmer Keith himself used a custom single-action revolver in 44. Many of his design specs were incorporated into the Ruger Bisley Blackhawk. Common revolver lore states that the Ruger Bisley platform is the most comfortable for full-house 44.

Close.....

The mag-fed is the Deerfield (I have two...my favorite rifle :) ) while the tube fed version was called the deer slayer originally, then changed to the simple "44 carbine".
