Went for a hike today and found this one getting a bit of mid winter sun in the snowless mountains.

Vancouver Island.

Taking a poll,

Boar or Sow?

And why?

I would say sow, ears are too “long” for a boar. But that is just a guess pictures ain’t great, I mean a picture of the bear standing where we can see a the entire body/legs would be better!!
Damn out bears are still well asleep lol -30c

Ya.
It was laying down.
Possibly even poking out of its den.
My gut said sow.

Definitely can be hard to tell sometimes.

For sure its not a 300+ boar.

Most likely a young sow, 2 1/2 years. Small stature, soft features to the nose, ears look rather large and out of proportion as she has not grown into them yet so maybe younger. Hard to tell without a better look. I am using the browsed dogwood as a quick size reference.
