This rifle was being used to secure parts of southern Somalia yesterday. For anyone who didn't know, today is the 19th anniversary of the events in Mogadishu depicted in the film Black Hawk Down. The KDF are still trying to clean up that mess. Somehow I doubt they'll do a whole lot better than the American's, but they certainly are trying.

There's a thread in battle rifles with all the Kenyan Defense Forces GKA3s lined up, but I was curious if anyone could identify the AR this guy is using? Looks a hell of a lot more up to date than most of the stuff in that part of the world.

Looks like a US supplied M4 with KAC rail, also has the bayonet lug and barrel that you can fit a M203
Hard to see the flip up sight, appears similar to matech
Very similar to US Army issued carbine

That looks to me like an Passive RFID chip.

I've seen those on thermal imagers and nightvision before. I suppose it would make sense they put them on "donated" firearms. I wish the US govt thought they should give me an M4 to further their interests abroad.

Looks like a Norinco with a KAC rail.

Actually I would not be surprised at all if we started seeing more Norc rifles show up in Africa. I know that Sudan (north) has lots of interest in the PLA while they keep negotiating (i.e. raiding) with South Sudan for oil rights.

Looks like this fine young lad is planning on spraying that sucker from the hip, Diane Feinstein style!! His rear sight is folded down, rendering it useless, as it his only means of aiming.

I could be wrong, but to me, that looks like a 16" barrel.

Africa sure has come a long way from the AK weilding mele fighting style tribesmen in the 1990s and 2000s. These guys appear to have ceramic plate armor, AR15/M4 variants, proper helmets, matching uniforms and varying levels of gucci gear accessories. These guys look like professional soldiers. That KAC RAS is just dead weight though. There's nothing attached to it, and he's got a separate Colt model side sling swivel attached at the FSB. Looks like somenoe wanted the best for these guys, excluding the dude in the back with the ancient G3. Poor bastard, guess he's got no friends at the armory...

He also has good trigger discipline.

looks like a standard USGI M4 with 14.5" barrel to me. I have a 14.5" on my AR and it looks proportionally the same near the muzzle.

I agree. 14.5" barrel. Tried blowing up the photo to see if it had the Colt 'C' on the upper receiver but the resolution doesn't allow it.
