Hi, I’m hoping one of our pre1900 experts, GrantR??? may be able to assist with this identification of type/model of leather and possibly with unit.
The stampings inside the shoulder straps are somewhat faded, but this is what I can make out:

With a 196 or 796 which appears to be “burned” into the leather. Inside the top flap of the box is other stampings but even under a magnifying lens the only thing I can make out is a 48 stamp.

Chilean Cartridge box for the Mauser 1895 Rifles, sold as surplus by Century Arms about 30 years ago. Probably dates from the 1930's or 40's.
