Idea for a new part... Who's should I contact about it?

I've got an idea that I'm sure is not new but is something I've never seen. If it exists, where? If not, I think it's good enough that a company could make some money with it.

With the increasing number of pistol caliber carbines out there and their increasing popularity I would like to see someone make a foregrip that holds a pistol mag. I would say start with Glock mags (probably 9mm and 45acp) as these appear to be the most popular options for pistol carbines.

I'd prefer it actually have a mag release so the mag is locked in but there may be a way to use a friction system. I'm no designer, but it seems to me alot of people with pistol carbines have foregrips that are mostly wasted space. Being able to hold a spare mag would be so handy.

I'd also like to see rail mount mag holders. So much wasted rail space, a simple mag holder wouldn't take up much space but would again, be very useful.

Just an idea I had. Anyone know of such a thing? If not, what site sponsor would be most likely to have the capability to make something like this?
 
The railed mag thing has already been made. I dont see how it is an advantage to have a extra pound hanging off the side of your rifle, especially on the fore-end. If you want a extra mag, just use a redimod.

But your pistol mag foregrip might be a niche product for some.
 
What about a vertical grip that you could put a mag in. I have a .45 carbine that uses glock mags, it would be neat to have a vertical grip with a Glock 30 mag in it.
 
Dumb idea if you expect to run and gun it, if you sit at the bench then carry on. Extra weight forward of the balance point is no fun and absolutely no benefit.

Now that you've aired your ideas in a public forum it would be difficult to claim them as your own. Every manufacturer on Earth now has rights to produce the things you describe, so if they're good ideas, then expect to see them on shelves soon, generating profit for someone else.

Read what I wrote above. Thats EXACTLY what I was talking about first. A vertical foregrip with a box holder inside. The idea to have them rail moutned was just an asside idea that may have been interesting to SOME, not all... There is ALOT of wasted rail space on guns these days. For the weight of a single mag it seems like it wouldnt be such a big deal.

I dont mind putting the information out there... I dont care if someone else takes it and produces it. I have NO ability to manufacture something like this and I have NO time to do whatever is needed to apply for a patent or whatever I would need to keep it my own. Id rather HAVE one than just THINK about one.

Well, the mag-grip idea is mostly for show :) Im not a big fan of vertical grips. I like to have my hand on the handguard farther to the front, plus i think it is faster to grab the next mag of a belt then trying to unlock the adapter of a rail..

As for the rest of the setup, yes, i shoot it that way and it shoots well.
 
Im coming from shooting a loaded VZ58 to shooting a Kriss Vector. The extra weight is not an issue. Whats a loaded mag weight? Not much. Certainly not enough to get uptight about.

Ive seen that Zahal part, it sortof does what I was describing but not how I was describing it. The problem, as youve stated, is that you have to remove the whole mag from the rail which is neither fast nor convenient, not to mention, if you DO use a front grip, once you remove the mag your front grip is gone. I dont see why it would be so hard to simply make a grip with a magwell in it. The pistol grip on your pistol has it. How hard could it be to make one with a rail mount on the top? Drop your mag with your rear hand, at the same time release the front mag with your front hand, catch it with your rear hand and slam it back into the gun. I definitly dont see how that could be slower than reaching down to your belt. Not to mention, the gun doesnt have to move an inch and your hands are only off it for a split second.
 
I think that mag holders on a belt like in IPSC would be a better idea. That's what I have tried with my PC 9 and it works well, plus I'm used to reaching down to the belt for the extra mags.
 
I have those too... did anyone else see the Sons of Guns show where Redjacket built a Kriss... they installed a dual mag holder in the back of the stock in the wasted space... it was awesome. Thats where the idea came from for me.

Its not for everyone, but I see alot of JR Carbines and other pistol calibre guns with fore grips... seems like theres at least a few of us who would buy one.
 
Well, I know that there's an AR stock that has a slot for a spare AR mag. Made by Fab Defense/mako group or somesuch, saw some at P&D Enterprises.
So if you talk to Zahal, they might be able to convince Fab to make some pistol mag variants.
Having the extra weight in the buttstock will somewhat help minimize the negative effects.

Or, get one of those skeleton stocks, get some mags, and get some Kydex. Make yourself a stock-mounted mag pouch. Or I'm sure one of the guys who do Kydex on here could hook you up.

Or a more universal picattiny mount on the mag pouch rather than a belt loop attachment.

Or go full ghetto and use standard belt loop mag pouches and get some straps to attach them to your rifle.
 
Im thinking about making one of my own. I think I can do a pretty nice job using a kydex holder and a rail mount. Ive built alot of parts for my RC hobby by hand so I think I could pull it off O.K.

Ive contacted Zahal about a railed forend for the Kriss as well. They seemed receptive. But a company that makes Kydex holsters is a good idea. Id actually prefer one for the skeleton stock on my Kriss but its a far more specific product and, IMO, less likely to entice a manufacturer as it would only be purchased by Kriss owners.
