Hi,

There are so many options that I'm quite lost. I'd like people's input on optics for a Bergara HMR in 6.5 CM i just ordered.

- Will mostly be used from 100-300y bench.
- Occasional hunting 150-400y (limited walking so weight shouldn't be an issue)
- On very rare occasions I have access to a 1000y range. Would be nice to have this capability even if the experience is not optimal.

budget 1500$

Since I a using my 6.5 CM mostly for target out to 500 yards, I mounted a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x40 with the Varmint Reticle, so that i also have the windage marks for 10 and 20 mph crosswind shots, and a finer reticle to see the target easier.
It works fine for hunting small to medium game (deer, wolf, coyote, etc.) in open terrain and better lighting conditions for me.
If I were to hunt with it in all terrain types and lighting conditions, I would opt for the B&C reticle instead. I have such as scope on my 6.5x55 so that gets used for those hunting trips.
But this is what works for me, and I do not plan to hunt (nor have a rifle range) or where I can practice out to further distances.
If I did, I may have mounted my Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 BRH, that I picked up used , instead. Although the BRX reticle would be better for target than the BRH which has a heavier reticle.

take a hard look at the Delta Javelin.
it's essentially the twin sister to the Athlon Ares ETR, but with locking turrets and different reticles (and 10yr warranty vs lifetime with the Athlon).

I was going to suggest the same although it's probably not ideal for hunting. That being said, for the price I think it's hard to beat. I run mine on a 6 creedmoor and it's impressive for what it is. I'm replacing my midas tac on my 6.5 with another javelin. I also have an Ares and can say that the javelin looks better to my eye and it's significantly cheaper.
