Looking at upgrading my old but trusty Winchester model 67 single shot. I’m going to keep it as it can shoot shorts which is fun, but looking for a new 22 for this upcoming hunting season.

what I am looking for is

stainless steel
detachable magazine
synthetic stock
iron sights preferable but not a deal breaker
compact
Reliability
accurate

any ideas on good models?

If stainless is a priority then CZ 455, Ruger American Rimfire or Savage. You can get a smith to tap the front sight on any of them. I put Tech sights on my stainless RAR. But I do prefer the build quality of my stainless CZ 455. I just had a T1X delivered today. Build quality seems good but only the bolt is stainless.

Here is a pic of the CZ.

Savage gets bashed on the forums, but the .22s are made in Canada at Lakefield Ontario. It's worth going up a few steps in the MkII line up, get into the heavy barrel and wood stock line and they're a much nicer rifle than the bottom end, with cheap plastic stocks.

If money is of little concern then anything Ceska Zbrojovka (CZ) would be worthwhile.

If money is of absolutely no concern, you'll be looking at an Anschutz - maybe a straight pull.

I had pretty close to the same list as you do last year. Ended up with a savage mkii and love it. SS/synthetic. Only a couple hundred rounds down it so far and a handful of grouse have hit the dirt. Absolutely love it so far, not one complaint yet. Has been very accurate with CCI’s. I also had irons on my wish list, this one didn’t have any and honestly I don’t think I’d take the scope off at this point either. Definitely not a deal breaker!

Would have also loved to get a T1x as I like my Tikka’s but at the time I couldn’t find any on the shelf..
