I fell in love with this long handguard but unfortunately they don't ship to Canada.

So I was wondering if anyone else out there who is like me planning on buidling a 20 inch or 18inch upper had any ideas for a nice looking handguard.

Meh, if you're not a "brand snob" and want a cheap and surprisingly good rail, try out the new Leapers UTG Pro line. Marstar is the Canadian dealer.

Yes, I actually recommended Leapers UTG.......

I can attest to this mans fine taste in handguard-to-barrel ratios.

Only downside is that I can't access the gas port without removing the whole guard.

How often are you accessing the gas port?

And the main issue is that gas pressure can blow out your hand guard if there is not enought room for your brake.

I've never really needed to access it; if suppressors ever became legal, I'd have an excuse. Concerning the break, there doesn't appear to be any significant build up or wear on the end of the guard, so the gas is escaping as it should be; I suppose this would be a bigger issue on non-perforated handguards, especially carbon fiber ones. I would think putting your hand at the end of your guard could spell a blistered hand, though.

I do see how it could go terribly wrong, if there's not enough space (and if the brake is aggressive enough):
