Valmet and another company merged into what is now known as Metso Inc., but they do not manufacture firearms. Unless they sold the name, they should still have ownership of it. They don't manufacture firearms...

And even if you purchased the name, I doubt the RCMP would accept any Valmet AK's that weren't produced in Finland.

Interesting, but I had a thought. Don't know how well it translates.

DeHaviland hasn't been a functioning manufacturer of airplanes for years. Bombardier sold off the type certificates to Viking Air for many of the legacy models.

A new DHC-6 manufactured by Viking Air is recognized world wide as flight worthy as it's made by the current owner of the type certificate.

If the legacy corporation that manufactured the Valmet rifles was to sell the name and thier TDP for producing them to another corp????
 
those proposals would be a waste of time for the tiny Cdn market. An Ak plany is a serious investment, although I do know of one for sale.

Canada has the population of Tokyo.
 
Yeah... And not everyone in Canada is into firearms...

Valmets do have a great reputation all over the place, though. Depending on how wide you can cast the net, it could potentially work out well.
 
How about a pistol cal carbine similar to the Kel Tec Sub2K.

Instead of a folder/fixed stock it would have a collapsible stock similar to the AR utilizing the same buffer tube/stock which would allow easy user customization and keep costs down.

It would use readily available pistol mags (Glock/Beretta/Sig) The mags would fit in the grip to keep OAL down.
It would be a flat top w/ a rail for optics or BUIS
It would have an 18.5 barrel that could be changed out for calibre swap and be non-R
It would have a free float fore end with the option for or include rails
Being a blow back system it would be limited to certain pistol calibres, but it would make calibre swaps as easy as a mag/bolt/barrel swap.

The receiver material could be polymer like the Kel Tec or it could be aluminum/steel. Polymer would keep cost and weight down.

If Hipoint and Kel Tec can produce these in NA for the $3-500 they are selling the Sub 2K and TS955 it surely can be done using 3rd world slave labour for a similar price point:)

It sounds like I'd like a love child of the Sub2K and the JR Carbine :)

I really like this idea!
Perhaps, for ease of manufacturing/interchangability/price consideration Maybe have the interchangable mag housing stick-out to the side (sort of like the Sten) then have it use a standard AR grip.
