Ideas for re-blocking the shell magazine tube on a semi auto shotty

So I just bought a Semi shotty for 3 gun and found that the mag tube was blocked at the magazine extension tube by a dowel of wood + wood glue.

Now the tube fits 5 x 2-3/4 shells but as we all know the legal limit is for 5 X 3" shells.

Now, does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this blasted dowel out so I can re-block the mag tube for 5.9 X 3" shells?

Other than drilling out the wood........

Isn't the legal limit 5x of the maximum chamerable shell, as indicated on the firearm? So, if it is a 3" chambered gun, then you are correct. I'll assume this is the case, the make/model wasn't given.
