Identification and estimated value

Can anyone out there please provide some information on the firearm pictured below? A make, model, and estimated value would be much appreciated.

Mossberg made a variety of .22 rifles with the fold down forend handle, both bolt action and semi. That looks to be a pretty early one. The last ones had black plastic handles.
I would suggest that value would be nominal.

It appears to be a model 142A which was in production 1949-1957. The earlier ones had the T bolt handle like yours has. The 142A T bolt is not rare but is uncommon. The model number (142A) should be stamped on the barrel. If it is not it has been ground or polished away and reblued. There should also be sling swivels screwed into the left side of the stock. Notice I said side and not bottom. There should also be a S108 peep sight on it. It's hard to really see condition from your pics but the T bolt handle brings a premium over round bolt handle. I just bought a very nice (refinished) 142A T bolt for $200.00. On rimfire central, I see guys have bought average to above average condition 142A's from $200.00-$275.00, mint ones more. Like I said, I can't make out condition very well from your pics but it is missing the peep sight which is about $75-$100.00 on ebay right now to replace. Can't see if it has the side swivels and don't know if the mag is with it. Also don't know if the markings on the barrel have been ground away. It also has someones initials or name on the side which really devalues it. So you could have a $100.00-$125.00 gun if conditions mentioned apply.

The missing magazine and chunk missing from the handle won't help either.

Also, the gun has a rear barrel sight. The 142A never had a rear barrel sight. The 142K did but it did not come with the T bolt handle. So either someone drilled and tapped for a rear barrel sight or someone put a different bolt or changed the handle of a 142K. It also appears from the photo (may be just the angle of photo) that the forearm wood has a piece cracked off. Unfortunately, the value keeps dropping. Check the barrel to see if it is stamped.
