A Mauser of some kind was found in a workshop with no bolt.

There's no marks identifying the calibre of this rifle that we can see. The letters PB with a crown above them are marked in several areas of the rifle. The front post site is in the shape of a V and the rear sights are a ladder affair which can be fire flat or raised vertically to fire long range. Its calibrated to 24 hundred meters (I assume). The barrel is approx. 30 inches long. The magazine is flush with the stock and it has a steel buttplate. The stock has been bubbatized, but show's signs of a cleaning rod hole

Can anyone help us out. We are curious to know the history of this rifle.

Any help would be appreciated :confused:

more marks!

There's a crown with a PT? hard to see as its double stamped. there's what looks like a palm tree under the top symbol with a circle with an x in it below. the serial number on the receiver starts with a K.

Don't know if this will help you?:confused::confused:

Never saw a Mauser with a palm tree crest before...

peru? should be more to it than a palm tree though. plus didn't the peruvian 1909 (flush magazine as stated) have the lange vizier (sp?) sights. not to mention siderail markings.

Pics can be sent to one of you guys, claven or Mig25

I have a digital camera and can send pics if you want them, I just need your personal e-mail address.

It would be nice to identify it. Barrel is a bit crusty, it was in the workshop for a longtime. Long enough for it to gather dust and be forgotten.

i've sent you an email address, i can post them for you or you can go to photobucket.com and set up an account.

here are the pics.

A big thank you to all!!!!!

Well guys

You guys hit the nail on the head. The rifle stock has a crack in the butt which I thought was a imperfection. Its actually where two different pieces of wood were joined. Its very similar to the one on gun broker web site. The stock on gun brooker was bubatized the same as the one in our possession.

So its a Japanese 6.5x50mm

One more question, where would a guy get a bolt and ammo for this rifle? Would a regular Carcano bolt fit it. Too bad it doesn't have a regular mauser bolt as Carcano bolts are not too smooth to cycle.

Thanks again :cheers::rockOn:
