Guessing at context here...
Unit armourer in the field on the Eastern Front, "borrowing" a peasant's house for his shop.
Basing this on the unfinished tree pole frame around the window (something more common to the boonies in Eastern Europe than Western Europe by that time period - also, prettey heavy looking wool shirts, so it's cold, even indoors, where they're working).
The tools on the table are WAY beyond what an infantryman would have at his disposal to work on a K98K...
Hoping someone pokes holes in my theory or rounds it out... Interesting photo, and the context intrigues me.
