Just bought my first SKS yesterday, it is to be a Russian model with Laminate.

$199 and tax, included is sling, 3 pouches, cleaning brush and an empty cleaning bottle and a metal piece which i am not sure what its for.

how does one truely identify the year and the place of origin. the one that the seller showed me on the wall doesnt really look the same as the other.

sorry as i am sure that this has been posted before, but my search has come up with no results.

working on the pics, never done that before so it may take a while.

notes: BK is before the serial number.

there is a star on the left side of the ejection side.

the BK and numbers match on the stock and the gas tube as well, the gas tube s hand engraved.

it is chrome lined bore i forgot to mention that on the first post.

i copied this out of the other post as suggested. The one i have has these identification markings:

top cover- 1955/56 which has no marking.

Here is a Tula 1955/56 top cover with both of the refurbished markings, others may have two of the same markings.

Late production. Part1952 - early1956. Has no mill step (below pic, bottom), see where the pen is pointing.

Late bayonet lug. Part1952 - 1956. Lightening cut with angled inner ear (below pics, bottom).

Ferrule 1950-1956. for blade bayo. (below pic right

Silver blade style bayonett

Type 3 Gas block. part1952 - 1956. (below pic, right) The gas block has a curve shape (I'll call it a curve gas block), much like the Chinese SKS.

Late gas tube latch. Part1954 - 1956 double indent with no tab (below pic, bottom).

Short tab type. 1951 - part 1956. (no big star as the original )Laminated. No lip (right).

so to me it looks like a 54 to a 56 refurb

so if its a refurb no sense having it as a safe queen, may as well shoot the Sh*t out of it. is that what you guys would say? i hope what i have identified is that its not a Chinese one.

thanks for that id 223, i was looking through some stickys and must have missed that 1st one.

referb isn't a bad thing, most of them are. So yeah, it sounds like you have a 1955-1956 Russian. If it were Chinese it would have Chinese stamps on it.

Shoot the crap outta it and have fun!

Assiniboia Sask. Gun show.

From the dealer that is from Leader, Sask.
It is to be a laminate Russian, but the only thing that i can see that makes it a russian is the light star in the left side of the reciever and

thebox with the diagonal line in it, one on the dust cover on the back and one inthe right side of the stock.
there is no big stars with arrows in it or anything like that.
