Identifying if Mark 5 Mec 600 jr from pictures

The more I look, the more I'm seeing that it seems more important to find the right gauge than the exact press you want.

Basically, any MEC press in good condition is going to do the job.

YES and NO . Forget changing them over or even thinking to a different gauge and back and forth. Once I get one where I want it for a load for a certain gauge and hull ( my high volume target loads) and load I leave it and buy another press but I am talking 500 rounds at a time per 45 minutes with many. All my hunting loads I do one at a time and weight the shot ( large shot doesn't drop well ) and powder and just use the press for the rest crimping etc. No bottles installed since I may be doing like 2 boxes of one size then two of another not a ton of shells. Especially steel reloads
I have tried every hull known to man I think over the years keeping a sample of each so I know the base wads etc and stick to quality one piece compression formed Like AA or STS or gold metals or Activ unless hunting hulls that theses cannot be used on and if so federal or remington there 99% of the time. Sample of some in the sample bag below

I would stay clear of the real older models
Royal pain to get any MEC reset and crimping etc right if you are fussy like me . They all are wonderful until one starts having trouble and you will tear your hair out trying to get it to crimp right again many times
Honestly from a guy that has been there since the 60's using them and still there and own like 20 from 410 to 10ga
If I was just starting with nothing I would look for a MEC sizemaster since is has the primer feed which you will want eventually and has a way better resizer with the collect design especially when doing hunting hulls that have high brass or steel bases or a jr 600 new style knowing you would be buying the primer feed option to add down the road. Then again WTF would I know about them and just one man's opinion :) Shared this before and sorry I sound like a broken record but seems the OP is new here to this
I run a full set of MEC 600 jr's 410, 28, 20, 16 and 10
Full set of MEC sizemasters and a full get of 9000g yes including one in 16ga which most have never even seen let alone own and use one. Brother sent that up from the US for me
Three MEC steel masters one 10ga and one 12ga 3" and one 12ga 3 1/2 and two 12ga extras both for trap shells
about 1/2 of the girls below :)

Yes some sware by other types like Lee etc and that is fine I tried some other makes also and stuck with mec in the end because it was easy to get parts for when needed and did great reloads
Cheers

Oh wow, that's quite the collection 3macs1! Officially jealous ;-)

I found someone else that is selling a "never used" Mec 600 jr in 20ga...he's asking for more money than the previous one, but his is in much better condition. Would probably come to around 300$ shipped. Ouch.

To me you want to play you have to pay when you look at the price of a new one now they are 320 plus tax and shipping so you save 100 if this one is new
It is a life time machine if you take care of it. I thought I was crazy paying 450 for 9000g's now they are 950 so if I sell will get my investment back and more
IMO buy the right stuff up front and in the end save your self a bag of money and produce high end reloads
Buy only quality hulls and stick to one primer. Try to get a powder that reloads most of what you will require. Like for me unique does all my 28, 20 and 16 ga
Example I use winchester 209 for everything from 410 to 12ga. Barrels are full of certain hulls at clubs for one reason they are cheap JUNK and those really into reloading shotguns and don't screw their socks on in the morning because they are so tight with their money leave them there in the scrap barrels where they belong IMO
All the best with your reloading, take your time and don't buy/use stuff because you may find it cheap or free
Guys say they reload shotgun and it is simple and then there are guys that really load shotgun and know different
Nothing more relaxing IMO

The seller found someone local, so he's going for that instead. I would do the same. No hassle of packaging everything trumps a few extra bucks any day!

I did learn something new though in the process.

I think an older Mec Jr would be perfect for what I want to do and to start in the hobby.

OP - Considering it took you the better part of a year, and numerous threads on this forum to buy your Churchill 20 g double barrel, this initiative was moving way too quickly anyway. Why dont you put a WTB ad in the EE for a 20 g MEC Jr? Oh, and the ad could include hulls and wads, which are in dire short supply these days.

Mouahaha. Cosmic, you know me more than my wife. Dang.

No really...the churchill I started looking here and there to see what's available before I was ready to purchase, hence the lengthy process. But I have to say, I love that Churchill. Would of liked it to have a double-trigger now that I've used it in the field (it was a GREAT year as far as grouse hunting goes). But other than that, it's so much fun to carry around and shoot with.

It's a done deal with the MEC 600 jr. I'm pretty sure it should last me a life time!

Keep an eye open for #209 primers .I don't believe Winchester is making any shotgun primers right now. At least for reloaders. I wish I could find some, as it would simplify my reloading, I could use data exactly instead of a much more questionable use of Cheddite primers with the little Hodgdon data that they have. They are promising more as Cheddites are the only brand available now.

As for my first time trap experience, I broke 4 and busted 1 out of 24.The one disappeared. The guy watching said I hit half them. I have now shot a shotgun 31 times. This is fun but a little tough on my shoulder . My first reloads will be 1oz and at a more sedate pace. See, another reason to reload.

Good luck .

Yay! I purchased a MEC 600 jr 20ga press! Seller just needs to accept payment.

I'm going to start looking into the feasibility of trying to find wads and hulls (2 3/4") that I could use for:
- Target load ( lead #7.5, 7/8 oz)
- Grouse load (#6 copper plated, 1oz)
- Wabbit / Pheasant load (#4 copper plated, 1oz or maybe 1 1/8oz)

Ideally with the same powder. Probably can't be done...but I guess that's the fun part of reloading ;-)

I do everything thing there with win primers, unique powder aa wads and aa hulls
Plated shot is hard to find in canada other than two spots that sell ballastic products out of the uS
