IDF kits stock getting low

I gotta get my butt to one of these clinics pronto!

Purchased a parts kit but only changed the trigger group on my Norinco then tried it out. After a couple of successful shots this thing had failure to fire (light strikes I think) issues and failure to extract if fired.

Weird, but I'm a noob to this platform so I blame myself but, I'm seriously willing to learn!!!

Another newbi here, does anybody ever order these supposed Gi kits and get faulty or worn out parts ?? Or would most agree that the parts u get in these kits are a step above what u will find in any stock norc or SA M1a standard ? I really want to get into the M1a/m14 platform, just not sure on the route id take yet. But may pick up a kit just so the build a m1a option remains available.

My parts are mixed, don't know if they actually come from same rifle, if yes it has had parts changed over the years.
Some parts have no finish left on them and shine, and other parts (ie my barrel), has got a deep blue without the slightest scuff on it, looks brand spanking new.
Stock is rough also, took that ghetto cheek rest off but is still ghetto in some ways.

My stock had a chunk missing... I'll post pictures soon

There are not supposed GI parts kits. They Are GI parts kits.

The parts are not brand new. Most parts are made the 60s and used by the US then sold to Israel in the 70s and used until 1997. The finish of each part will vary some will be more worn than others. The rifles the IDF used (for the most part) were made with hand picked parts from other rifles and assembled into one. The barrels for the most part were also hand picked for their quality and are usually in good shape when it comes to how much life is left in them. But once again keep in mind it is used, round count is very much unknown. You might get lucky and get a close to New Old Stock barrel or not . It might have a high throat erosion or muzzle erosion. It could even have flaking of the chrome plating. But from what most have seen on here they have been in pretty good over all shape.

For the price they are going for now is a great deal as USGI parts are getting hard to come by.

These GI parts or any GI parts are pretty much always a step above a norc. A brand new Standard SAI rifle will have much better fit and finish than a norc or surplus parts kit, everything will be brand new. The head space will be correct and it's under warranty.

If the finish is something that is of great concern these parts can always be refinished to look new, Vulcan Gun does exceptional work.

There is a good chance it didnt come from the same rifle. The IDF took 35000 rifles and made them into 10000 rifles. And then over time replaced parts when needed.

It's a roll of the dice. Most people don't own gauges and even worn parts often function acceptably for the average shooter, but to be frank, I've worked on quite a few of these kits now, and I often encounter worn out parts.

When building a kit for MYSELF, I typically get a good rifle for every TWO kits, but I won't use a worn out part iaw specifications, whereas many shooter are happy to carry on in blissful ignorance and many builders only check headspace when they slap kits onto receivers unless the owner asks for additional services.

Parts I see that are often unacceptably worn in Israeli kits include:

-Bolts with overly worn lugs (maybe 10%?)
-Gas cylinders (maybe 30% of them I gauge are worn out)
-Springs - nearly 100% are worn out
-gas pistons - half are rejected by me
-triggers and hammers - maybe a 10-20% reject rate
-barrels - I reject over 60% of the kit barrels with throat erosion abd/or muzzle cord wear
-flash hiders - I reject about 25% for excessive gas cutting wear on the vents near the outer end
-stocks - I reject almost all of them as beyond economical repair
-trigger housings - 50% reject rate for worn action mating splines
-roll pins - virtually a 100% reject rate
-op rods - 50% of them needs tabs re-built, which is a $100+ repair.

thanks for the excellent first hand knowledge.

There is only approx. 50 M14 parts kits left and when they are gone that is it, there will be no more. A dealer was going to purchase a bunch and changed his mind, hence the fluctuation in numbers. We will do a stock take when the numbers get a bit lower as we have broken up several kits for parts and I don't think the count is accurate.

Glad I picked up a kit last December. Still deciding between cast Fulton or forged LRB receiver, and justifying the purchase.

It looks like there's a $300 difference between the two, $904 for Fulton (US$679.99) and $1,277 for LRB, and Wolverine is out of LRB receivers right now.

Can’t speak to the Fulton, but the three LRB guns I’ve built are flawless in both finish and functionality. Could be wrong, but I think Wolverine is no longer the source for LRB in Canada.

Wolvernie cant get more. The Fulton and lrb importer are the same company now.

Honestly, both are just fine. I've built on both and they were both great brands.

For a while Fulton didn't support canadians, while lrb has been friendlier to us, if that matters to you.
