Hey Everyone,
I thought it might be a good idea to start a fresh new thread for the IDF M14 parts kits, tho this thread will be dedicated to showing everyone's completed builds with a breakdown of parts if you want and if you have had the chance, why not throw in a range report too!!!
Ok So I will get this ball rolling. The parts kit I received had mostly H&R parts except for a bolt of which I was able to trade for. I chose not to use the stock and went with a birch GI stock so the break down goes as follows;
*** Forgot to mention and really shame on me but, Barrels installed with all the help, support, and expertise of the one the only Barney AKA Hungry AKA Tactical Teacher. Thank you again Sir!!!***
Barrel - H&R (1961)
Bolt - H&R
Op rod - H&R
Gas Tube - H&R
Trigger Housing - H&R
Safety - H&R
Hammer - H&R
Rear Sight Base - H&R
Elevation Drum - WCE
Windage Knob - DRC
Butt Plate Assy - KMT
Stock - Overton
Hand Guard - #6 (Structurlite Plastics Corporation)
Receiver - 2014 Springfield Armory Inc.
All other parts unmarked USGI
The IDF is on the left with its sister (non parts kit) H&R build
Today I finally got to go to the range for some real trigger time to sight in this rifle and the other H&R. It took a good number of rounds and I was having quite a difficult time as I had quite a wide spread of shots going to the left and right and was really starting to doubt myself and the rifle, that is before I realized my own buffoonery of not fully tightening down the front sight thusly causing it to walk left n right
Anyway I finished up the sighting in session with a 10 shot group at 100 yards using 7.62x51mm 149 Grain American Eagle/Lake City ammo, I am very happy with the results! If it wasnt for the super high shot that I pulled this would be a 3" group but in truth sits at 4". So perhaps with different ammo and me not rushing this group can tighten up.
Thanks for stopping in, feel free to add as much stuff as you want and ask any questions!!
