if it's an original, maybe you need to strip the bolt all the way down- right nown to the individual compoents- take the back end off the firing pin- it's been too long since i had a 98, so OTHERS WILL HAVE TO TELL YOU HOW TO STRIP THE BOLT down to the firing pin, cocking piece, etc- the way i was shown was that you ALWAYS put the safety wing in the CENTER position before stripping the bolt out of the action anyway- then you strip the bolt body off the striker after you push the button- it unscrews by the way-
then you put the firing pin point on that big washer like thing in the stock and push down, and turn the cocking piece at the end of the firing pin so it comes off- KEEP THE PRESSURE ON AS YOU ARE WORKING AGAINST THE FIRING PIN SPRING- THEN SLOWLY EASE UP and the firing pin should come come away from the shoulder-now with the firing pin and spring off there should be just the shoulder and safety which just flop around- put it in the center position and re-assemble your bolt in reverse order- IF THERE ARE OTHERS THAT CAN CORRECT THIS PLEASE DO- i haven't done a 98 since the 70"s
