I was working on a reproduction flint lock (lock only) yesterday and contemplating that the #### (hammer) did not strike the frizzen particularly well and would have done better with a longer arc to position the flint better when it strikes the frizzen
that got me to speculating about the gun makers guild in the good old days; they usually seemed to get the arc about right. It then occurred to me that just as we have building covenants today governing how you can build your house and so forth, perhaps there were covenants in the good old days, governing how you built and designed a gun lock.
in other words, the lock geometry would have been correct because of the arc of the covenant :>) :>)
