it is a fun compettion. Why wouldn't we. If everyone has to do reloads at the same time etc nobody has an advantage. THis is not life and death, our mountains won't move a foot over the results. In short just a game. If you want to train for tactical reasons so you can go off and fight zombies then join the military or your local police force and do it all for real.
The guys I have met who shoot IDPA do it for fun and recognize it as a sport. All we ever shoot for is a 12 cent certificate and the fun and enjoyment of banging away at targets that don't shoot back.

All that said most .22 pistols I have seen have 10 rd mags.

If in the end we get more guys and gals out shooting and it expands our sport all is good.

YEA thats all good But when is there going to be a two gun match with 10/22 and 30 round mag and walls to climb and snow tunnels to crawl through and horse rocking props to mount . WOW this could replase cowboy action shooting .
or at least a boring day flipping channels .
 
'Just picked up an Advantage Arms .22lr conversion kit for my Glock.
Functions perfectly with all the 38-40gr high vel. ammo. I tested it with.
AA advises against hollow points, but.... I didn't have any problems with 'em.

Maybe I'll run it in my own "Mouse-gun" Div. at the Colby ODPL match Dec. 15:D

Well we had our first shoot today. Six of us went out and had some fun. We have frozen in our barriers and will simply move target stands for different scenarios. Weather was quite warm +3C so it was more slush and wet than shooting in the snow. Pictures are up on:

Wel loaded the guns to 10 rounds so we would not have to pick a loaded round out of the slush after clearing the weapon and all mag changes were with retention for the same reason. Shooters without holsters started at the low ready position with a 3 second penalty.

Using .22LR Pistols for IDPA Is a Great Idea and Practice

Having more participation by using .22 pistols both self loaders and revolvers is a great idea and can be practical outside in the winter with a few modifications. The "MIA" factor is speedloaders for .22 revolvers; the self loaders and mag pouches are really not a problem that a good holster maker could not solve.

To illustrate I will relate what I did to improve my PPC performance in service revolver in the Winter of 1998-99 by shooting outside about 30 times over a three month period for an average of an hour or hour and a half at a time. Routinely I would go through about 150-200-250 rounds of 22 in an afternoon: Total cost: about $8.00 with no empties to recover. I used a LLama .22 revolver with a 6"brl acquired for $75.00 in NRA Ex because nobody knew what it was "for", in my opinion.

The "FOR" was duplicating almost exactly the heft and feel of a S&W K frame revolver complete with H&K speed loaders that I obtained: ten of them altogether...again they were new and quite "dusty" as they had sat in a gun store for years unattended and were a bargain as they were considered "old stock".

Next a belt wide enough to go over my parka so I could wear my rig on the outside at -20C or even -30 C the coldest I shot at the PPC and IPSC style targets at distances from 7 yds to 50 yards.

I had the range to myself for the entire winter with few exceptions. My LLama .22 worked perfectly out of a Milt Sparks Holster I had for my S&W K frame. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing any number of "draw and shots" over the course of the winter. All the practice was a major boost to my PPC as well as my IPSC shooting. The self loaders I used were a S&W 41
and/or a Colt Match Target 2nd series.

Have a look at all the holsters El Paso Saddlery makes for .22 pistols. This is an easily solved problem and gives your .22 pistol a whole new perspective.

As to IDPA Tactical use practicality, I would suggest that there have been such uses by various agencies and armed forces of .22 pistols. For one I would not want to be standing in front of a fusilade of high velocity .22 hollowpoints.

This .22 understudy really is "old news" as 70 years ago Police Forces with .38 Special Colt Official Police revolvers encouraged their members to get .22 duplicates..Colt and S&W catered to such needs. One of the nicest .22 revolvers I have used is a Colt Trooper in .22LR which is for all intents and purposes an exact duplicate of the Colt Trooper in .357.

Currently all those .22 conversion kits for the Colt 1911A1 as well as so many others offers this IDPA opportunity.

We Really CANT Have TOO Many Participants! I taught my wife and son to pistol shoot over 25 years ago; we started out with .22 pistols and used holsters for them.
