Gentlemen, in the recently concluded Annual General Meeting of the Port Coquitlam and District Hunting and Fishing Club, a new Board of Directors was elected.

I would like to call on all POCO members who wish to add IDPA among the many shooting disciplines at the club, to meet.

How about we all meet at the range, get acquainted and burn some powder, sometime in the next two to three weeks, to discuss how to approach the Board with a fresh proposal. We can proceed to Tim Horton's at the end of the day...or whatever.

Let's decide on a date and time so we can get this IDPA show on the road. Thanks!

Looks like there has been some changes from the old guard. Do you feel you can get it accepted this time.........

Who knows! The last time around, I heard that a few of the IPSC guys were interested in trying IDPA. I think one or two even offered their help in setting it up or at least getting it off the ground. Perhaps these guys could step forward now.

I was at the range recently, and the mood from the general shooting crowd was very hopeful and optimistic. I guess people just wanted to see a change and, well, they sure got it! Heck, nobody seemed even bothered by the Coquitlam bylaw fiasco! Everyone was just hyped up over what happened at the meeting!!:D

Nice responses, Gentlemen. Thank you.

How about suggesting some dates and times. Weekends are quite busy for me due to church choir commitments as well as more work load.

My suggestion is we gather this month (February) during one Wednesday Rimfire Night (7 - 8:30 pm) then proceed to Tim Horton's after getting our burnt powder fix. Please chime in with yours.

My understanding is that it is 10 years free and clear and then bumps in 3 year increments after review to a maximum of 30 years. There is a proposed city bylaw that would prohibit the discharge of any firearms outdoors which could potentially trump the 30 year extention.

Others may have clearer knowledge but that is what I got from the AGM.

That's correct, re: the lease.

Regarding that Coquitlaw bylaw: at the end of the AGM, after 70% of the hall emptied out in the wake of the big drama, Chuck Zuckerman (the Pres) gave a briefing on that proposed law. In a nutshell, he said that the framers of the law just plain did not take PoCo's existence into account. However, Chuck explained that PoCo has solid contacts with city council / the mayor, and that he had contacted them and alerted them to the fact that they were inadvertently about to outlaw the range. He said that this prompted immediate horrified declarations that the council had no intentions whatsoever of sideswiping PoCo, and that the wording of the bylaw would be changed to ensure that PoCo is not affected. In short, the Prez's message was: the proposed bylaw was scary BS, but it'll be fixed guaranteed, no worries.

That was his briefing. Hopefully he's right.

I noted that at PoCo's range 7 there was a sign up about the issue today (but it was closing time and I was scooting, so I did not get a chance to read it).

I agree with the meeting after a Wed night small-bore idea. Simple and casual. My impression is that the original poster has done some research on the subject? Particularly in regards the nuts and bolts of starting an IDPA chapter?

IDPA research is in-progress. Should have something to start discussions by the time we meet on one of these Wednesday eves. I do not feel qualified to lead this organizing group, but would like to help start a group that can organize an IDPA Chapter with the blessing of the POCO Board. I am sure that if we all put our heads together we will be successful in bringing this exciting handgun sport into the club.

I hope we get more POCO members involved in these initial "consultations".
IMO, current IPSC shooters who want to try IDPA would be a big help to us.

We have brother CGNners who are active IDPA shooters in BC and other provinces, and they have previously offered their valuable advice. We will definitely tap these resources as well.
