IDPA Changes

I cant wait to have to go back to the general meeting at our Handgun club and have to ask for more money to get soi's down and get our SO's certified.....again. they will likely say no and we will end up paying out of our pockets........if we recertify.

errr...at our club, individual certification (IDPA, BB, PPC, etc) is always paid by the member anyways.

I paid $30 and drove 5 hours to get my SO status. That part didn't really bother me though.

sorry but as a "former" soi i don't see what a lot of the hoopla is about.

We were not able to run courses anyway?

Did they pull the us soi's nope but this would be a good corporate decision, some states have more soi's than all of canada did.

So attrition is a real issue in the states, think about it 20,000 members down there, weekly matches. Guys running the line are going to get tired, so burn out is a real factor.

Did i give up my time to support this sport, yep.
Did i take time away from my family to support this sport, yep.
Was i tired, yep.
Some days do i just really want to sleep in on saturday mornings, yep.

But what has come out of my invested time has been getting to know a great bunch of shooters. Being able put a little coin into the clubs coffers. Getting new shooters out and on the line supporting and promoting the shooting sports.

I feel the payout from this sport far out ways, the need for an extra large tea every second saturday.

Btw are classifier is still a go july 7th starting at 9. See you there.

Well said Geoff - I agree 100%

I agree. With a redesign of the rule book, training has to start at the top and trickle down to the trenches. I'm not sure all the layers of bureaucracy were needed? Club contacts generally are the driving force behind the discipline at their club.

as a former SO i will say that i dont get to shoot as much as i did when i was not running 2 companies full time, and think it may be a good idea for more training for so,s but all of the SOI i have meet are more then able to teach or re teach the SO,s
Maybe im missing somthing here but i dont see what the problem with the SO, or SOI are.
The only issue i have with IDPA how matches are approved and the BS the MD has to go through to get approved for a match.

So the SOs that were not trained properly in the first place will get training from a computer online? Am I the only one who finds this hilarious? I know the corporate world does this type of training but for an SO?

Chris what have you missed? The IDPA rule book is being completely re-written and yes you likely are the only one.

If Universities can offer University accredited courses on-line do you really think it is a great leap to offer SO re-classification testing on-line? FYI USPSA has been doing this for years.

Aside from the fact the new rule book will have changes the need to keep SO's current and avoid tribal rulings has been apparent for some time now. While details are certainly not out yet the best information I have is the re-certification will involve completing an on-line test, likely each year. If nothing else it will force SO's to revisit the rule book on an annual basis.

SOI's will likely be subjected to some form of re-classification similar to the SO's though somewhat less frequently.

badboybeeson to date I have approved three Ontario matches, three Alberta and five BC Sanctioned Matches and consulted on two State Level matches. In every case the submitted stages required some changes to meet the course of fire rules as laid out in our rule book. The BS you refer to is there to ensure our IDPA membership, when attending a Sanctioned Match, are shooting a match that follows the IDPA rule set. Too, the review also ensures, best we can, that SO traps are avoided, the match is well balanced and equitable for the shooters attending the match. In short there is more to a Sanctioned Match than meets the eye and it is a credit to those who have undertaken the task. It is a lot of work for our MD's and that our shooters should be thankful for their efforts. Most are. You might want to read what Geoff wrote.

Unless you decided to give up your SO status BBB you still are an SO. No one had their SO statis revoked, SO training as of now has stopped outside of the US, so the SOI's lost their status, we are all still SO's.

Since this all started, nothing has been better written then this, it sums things up perfectly.

so all the soi's where released, and all training is on hold... that does not explain why all the AC's where also fired... ?reason?
Perhaps pending the appointment of an International Coordinator like we had last year with Country Coordinators reporting to him. Just speculation on my part.

we paid our own certifications but the club paid the soi's gas and food,Nothing Major its just that it was not done that long ago and to go back six monthes later and ask again would have not gone over well (a board of old bullseye shooters). Which I assumed would have to be done by an soi again. time will tell if that assumption was wrong.

Trust me it is wrong. All you will be asked to do is re-certify on-line to maintain your SO status. Last I heard it will be an annual requirement but that may change. The initial re certification is to ensure you are familiar with any rule changes that take place due to the re-write and thereafter to ensure you are staying current with the rules. Makes sense and should in the long run make for better and more consistent SOing. I think you would agree.
