As a matter of interest do the Canadian Forces allow you to take your weapons off the base in Canada? Just curious. /QUOTE]
General answer to a good (general) question...
While on duty or training requiring the carriage of weapons, yes.
Let me counter with another general question:
Are civilians allowed to CCW in Canada?
Cheers,
Steph
No and I don't know what the connecton is. IDPA is a "SPORT" based upon CCW in the US. The Sport has spread to 0ver 19 countries including Russia of all places. The marathon is based upon a Greek warriors run, the Biathalon on Alpine Troop escapades of wars past. Running a maraton doesn't make you a 300 BC Greek warrior anymore than shooting the Biathalon makes you a member of the Swiss Army.
My question related to the use of duty gear out of curiosity. I would assume members of the Armed forces wishing to avail themselves of this exception would be shooting FN High Powers or Sigs of their own. I would think most LEO's take their weapons home with them when off duty but that may well vary from one department to another.
Jim S - If IDPA provides a venue for our troops to practice before deploying then by all means we will do everything we can to accomdate them at our shoots. For deploying troops I would recomend no fees be attached to their attendance but I can only recomend; it is up to the individual Clubs and the Match Directors to decide.

Don't bin the thread man, I think the OP was a fair one and I certainly don't think that anyone is trying to "change" things to suit them to any advantage. I think the spirit of the sport is enhanced by allowing the members to use their gear, there is certainly zero advantage to using a 6004 with closed magazine pouches instead of say a Blade Tech DOH or other IDPA approved holster?...and I can tell you there is NO advantage to wearing body armour and other associated gear while shooting unless a bad back is the goal.![]()

Okay Wes, a Stingray then...you knew what I meant lover.dropped offset holsters are not allowed in idpa....

i use the stingray, it comes with both a belt attachment and a dropped offset attachment.... best holster going for gaming in my opinion.

Alll of the Military guys I shoot with, serving and retired run with IDPA concealment rules and eschew the duty rig idea. I mean, running the competition in full Battle Order?!?! When I was in that crap weighed at least 35 kilos! Try running a stage in a small pistol bay in that stuff (I have) and you'll find you're wishing for the CCW concept right smartly. But if you really wanna run the full show, ask around at the next match, you'll find the service rifle guys pretty quick.
Be lucky,
