anyone know if the DAA racer pouches are legal for IDPA? they look like they are to me but im not sure

also, are magnets on the sides a no-no in IDPA?

no, only the soi's got canned. the so's are still active but will have to recertify at a later date after the new rulebook is finished

The SO's remain SO's and will recertify once the new rule book and course is finalized. We are assuming the recertification will be done on line. The SOI's criteria is going to be changed. I don't expect many if any of our SOI's in Canada will fail to meet the new criteria. We won't know until the spring. The question right now is moot since all SO courses have been cancelled pending the publication of the new rule book and course.

Why don't you send an email to HQ for an answer. Nobody on this forum is going to make an official call on the mags. Off hand you wouild have to cover the hole in the front of the mag with tape. Other than that you should be good to go unless they are away from your body more than 3/4". If they are they would not be legal per the addendum. info@idpa.com. If you get a reply indicating they are legal then I suggest you print it out and keep the reply in your range bag.

Personally I'd hold off on any IDPA purchases until the new rules are published. I have read that adjustable mag pouches (like the Racer) are considered 'competition only' by some clubs, the same goes for magnets - which truly are totally impractical for CC purposes.

Rob you are correct and local MD's could well declare the holder illegal for the reason you state. Personally I don't believe the mag should be considered legal but others have indicarted the CR mags were legal if the hole in the front was covered and the knob in the CR mag was removed. Waiting for the new rule book would be the best option.

no hole in the front of the mag pouches, it covers just as much as my old cheap 5.11 ones do. they are way closer than 3/4 of an inch so seems good. I'm not purchasing anything im just looking at what of my IPSC gear ill have to screw with when I shoot a IDPA match in the new year.

if they really wanted to go only CC stuff then the only legal equipment should be IWB gear.

'Giant' or not my challenge stands. Also, if we're going to get picky as noted there certainly is a hole in the face of the Racer pouch (for access to an internal screw, I'm looking at mine right now). Unless the hole is covered (perhaps with tape as suggested) the pouch does not meet criteria 'E' of magazine carrier rules.

my winter jacket has a dozen of the same size magnets right on the front, I wear it all winter, its not an issue. either way i dont care if its carry practical, all i care is if it is legal for the game.

I did forget about those little holes though, will have to tape that

Magnets are out. Look, the rules for IPSC and IDPA are different. Why? Because they are different sports. Enjoy them both and play by the rules of both sports. The match directors have the final say at matches regarding the enforcement of the rules of IDPA. If they believe your equipment is outside of the rules you may not be playing that day. Simple.

I would suggest there are inexpensive mag pouches that meet the criteria for playing IDPA that would require no reference to the local MD. Find a double pouch or two singles and go play and have fun.

ps if you do decide to use them watch the angle of them. see page 37 of the rule book.

Strangely enough I know two people who use magnets for mag carries in the USA for daily carry.
Is there any rules changes to allow for AIWB or RDS equipped guns coming in IDPA? Both items being extremely popular in ccw in the USA, and only getting more so.

Rob you know as much as anyone knows as to what is likely to come down the pike. My guess is there will likely be few major changes in this revision. Likely more clarifications than actual changes. My bet is after the dust settles we will have an improved SO training regimen and far fewer Instructors in the US.

As to optic sights, no I don't see it happening this time around. In time I would bet money on it but not just yet. You are right we are seeing more folks looking at slide mounted optics for carry but it is a long way from being even remotely popular.

Folks wear magnets to prevent arthritus too, but they still aren't required to shoot IDPA. :>)
