IDPA guns

I have to agree with Dragoon. As a new shooter to IDPA, which I have fallen in love with, it's important to use the correct terms, so that guys like me can get it right.

There is a very good article posted on the IDPA Caanda web site regarding guns used in IDPA. The article may help you in making your decision. Look for it in the IDPA Equipment Questions sub forum.

Best advice is to shoot a few guns, find one you like and go shoot and have fun.

Picking a gun based upon what the Professional or Sponsored shooters are winning with is probably not the best way to approach the problem. One notable Pro has won events when he was sponsored by Berretta, Sig and now S&W. The only constant is the shooter.

It is the always the archer not the arrow.

ps The IDPA box is 81/4"x6"x15/8" The gun must fit in the box with an empty magazine inserted.

Canuck44, I joined the ATHL in Aug. Great bunch of guys, and to a person, they all made me feel welcome right away. Was using my 20 year old Taurus PT99AF, until I shot a Glock 17. Went to the store the next day, and as my wife saw how happy I was, she actually bought it for me.

Don't trade your wife! When the moment is right take her out to the range and ask Dragoon if you can see his STI Eagle. You might get lucky twice.:D

The Glock 17 is a great pistol. I have a problem with the grip on Glocks but that is just me and my hand. Your point is well taken. Find a gun you like and go shoot.

I have had the pleasure of seeing and shooting some of Dragoon,s collection of fine fire arms. As a matter of fact, at my very first shoot, my Taurus failed me, and it was Dragoon who lent me his Glock and rig so that I could continue the Match. That's the kind of guys I have found in IDPA.

Can't trade the wife, I have too much invested in that lovely gal. LOL

Funny how that works.:D I am sure she is happy you found a hobby that gets you out of her hair once in awhile.

The ATHL is one of the most active clubs in Canada with an excellent shooting program. I hope to get over your way this summer if time permits and will look forward to meeting you.

If you can try to come over for our Provincial shoot July 18th. You could combine it with a Salmon fishing trip. The Springs are running in the Skeena then.

It's not about being a snob; it's about language and effective communication. You're a club contact and therefore represent IDPA. Steve David is an SO instructor! What are people to think about IDPA if its representatives and instructors can't use the correct terminology?

Good point but it can get very stuffy and lose a lot of the fun if people are too anal!

also, if you want to shoot a different division than you have a gun for, there is most likely someone who will lend you a gun to shoot it.
