I shot my first IDPA match in Tennessee last week. I had a blast. I didn't do great but wasnt the worst. It doesn't seem like there is much around Toronto though.

Looking at their website it seems that there were only two matches last year and one so far this year. How active is it? Seem as if it lost steam from 2011 to 2012.

Have you looked into ODPL? Its more active west of the GTA then IDPA, but the rules are pretty well the same as far as I understand.

Would you not have to be a member of one of those clubs to attend a match? Also too participate in a IDPA match do you have to take a course like the black-badge with IPSC?

Im a member at Grenville, but could attend matches in SmithsFalls or EOSC.

You do not need to be a member of EOSC to attend EOSC IDPA matches. IDPA has a New Shooters course, but last I checked it wasn't mandatory. If you have your BB or something of equal value I would say your ok.

Thanks for the info Chef40. Are IDPA practices at your club also open? I wanna try competitive shooting, but I am finding it hard because of my shift work. Missed the last Black Badge at my local club because of work.

They are absolutely open! Come join us anytime.

The ODPL website does not tell the whole story.

Those matches listed are only the bigger matches.

Club level matches happen monthly at most clubs. Contact any of the clubs and they will get you into their program.

ODPL is just IDPA under a different name. They use a different name so they don't have to pay any sanctioning fees and/or deal with any political stuff to run matches. Costs are minimal. Red-tape is minimal too.
