I am a left handed shooter looking for a pistol for IDPA and IPSC. I want it to be 9mm or .40 cal. According to my research the CZ 85 Combat seems a good choice due to the ambi safety & slide release , adj. trigger and adj. sights. It also fits my hand perfectly. Anyone have good/bad experiences with this gun in IDPA or IPSC ? Any other pistols I should consider ? Any commets would be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife is a lefty and shoots a CZ Shadow. But I know lots of people shoot the shadow. Seems to be the choice of pistol for production division here.

Have you shot the Shadow? I've never shot the 85 personally but the Shadow is really nice to shoot. And if you're shooting production, why go 40? Wouldn't 9mm make more sense?

GP6-C - no question. Great sights, full ambi controls (including magazine release), and a super crisp single action. The DA pull, while a bit heavy as compared to a Shadow, is still smooth and consistent. Best out-of-the-box solution - no messing about. Purchase, adjust sights (if required), practice, compete.

After that, M&P/Glock/CZ-75/85.

While a CZ-75 SP01 Shadow is great for IPSC, it's a PITA for IDPA. There is too much variation in frame/slide weight to make it work. Some guys only need to change out the grips, some guys (i.e. me) have to remove the mag. break to make weight - and no grip tape.

I have been using a CZ 85 Comabt in both IPSC Production and IDPA and its great. I had a Shadow which is also a great pistol but I find the 85 a little quicker when transitioning from one target to another as it is a bit lighter than Shadow. The 85 Combat has all the great features you will need. I am right handed so I don't need the ambi features. I did have to go to the CZ aluminum grips but now the gun fits perfectly.

Another suggestion is a Glock 17 Gen 4 which has the reversible mag release if you wish to change it.

I have both of these and they work fine, no complaints.

HK P2000 is a completely ambi gun. I don't know if the LEM trigger is allowed in IDPA or IPSC, but with that you have a DOA gun, with a GREAT trigger, the mag release on my USP 45 is ambi. With training you can use a Glock etc.

You know what, I'm a lefty too and I didn't even bother reversing the mag release on my Sig, it's quite easy to use with my index finger. Likewise the decocker, and I always slingshot the slide to close it.

You'll get a million opinions on here, all different. Best thing to do is go visit an IDPA or IPSC group. Odds are they'll let you try their gear, and you can decide what's suits YOU the best.

There are many decent firearms for lefty's. I'm a lefty and shoot a Shadow good for production or standard in IPSC. Beretta 92f is not bad for both IDPA and IPSC. I have also shot and used a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 it also comes in 40cal, HK p2000 v3, sold that almost as fast as I bought it. The grip was terrible could only hold on to it with 2 fingers. The STI Trojan is excellent just spend another $ 85 bucks for Ambi safety.

Pretty much any 1911 will do just fine for IPSC or IDPA, its all about what you like and your means...
