Just got back from the Awards presentations and yes, I won 3rd in Marksman class - Enhanced Service Pistol division and yes, that means I'm now bumped up to Sharpshooter class. (mind you, my score (320.29) was better than 25 of the of the Sharpshooters at the match!)
I had some more 'ammo issues' during the second half of the match (had a piece of brass get caught in the chamber and couldn't finish Stage 8 (two misses and a failure to neutralize) so my score ended up as 13.82 when it should've in the 4 second range.
Here are some more photos:
Me on Stage 1. A simple 6 round stage (1 rd/tgt) that I shot clean.
Ryan on Stage 2. The SO on this stage was another Texan; 'Iron Mike' Webb - quite a character in his shorts and 'Ten Gallon Hat'.....
Me further into Stage 2.
Me executing a 'tactical re-load' between strings on Stage 2.
Me waiting to start Stage 3. The stage procedure called for 6 rounds minimum into the target 'strong hand only' and while retreating.
Ryan shooting Stage 3.
Ryan waiting for the start on Stage 4. The start was 'visual' in that it was the curtain (simulating an elevator door) opening. The competitor started at the 'low ready' with only one round loaded.
Me shooting Stage 4.
Me shooting Stage 5. I didn't seat my mag properly after Stage 4 and I had to initiate a 'Stoppage Drill' after the first shot.
Ryan finishing up Stage 5.
Ryan at the start of Stage 6. He had a seating issue with his mag at this point.
Me during the latter part of Stage 6.
A view of the last two targets on Stage 6. They started in the 'upright' position and the competitor had to shoot out a 'leg' on each target before they could be engaged.
Me on Stage 7. I'm engaging a moving target which was required to be shot on the move. It was based on a stage that I shot at the Idaho State Championships a few weeks ago.
Me at the start of Stage 8. This was the stage that I wasn't able to finish due to the fragment of brass stuck in my chamber.
Ryan drawing to successfully engage the three targets on Stage 8.
Ryan at the first position on Stage 9.
Ryan at the end of Stage 9. He got a 'procedural' on this stage for going from one position of cover to another with his slide locked back (ie: empty gun).
I had a really great time and considering the problems I had with my ammo (all my fault of course), I'm also very pleased with my placing.
Ryan and his friends from Texas - Jim B., Dave W., Gregg 'the rabbit man', Jim T., Duane H., and Phil T. (a retired USMC Colonel and veteran of Khe Sahn) were all great to me and made me an 'Honorary Texan'. They really made the trip one to remember. (I'm planning on going down to one of their major matches in the new year.) Regrettably we weren't all squadded together but we're hoping we will be at next year's IDPA Nationals!
I like how the top 3 in CDP aren't even 1911's, an XD, a Glock and then a M&P.
That was already noted at the Awards presentation!
