Hey fellow Poco Club Members:

I'd really like to do IDPA and understand that there's IDPA in Chilliwack. Now that's just too far for me to drive. I'm a member of the Poco club and unfortunately, we don't seem to have this event there.

I'm interested in doing IDPA at the Poco range. Just wondering if there's any interest in the general shooting populace about this. Bear in mind Poco is just about the only range in the Vancouver / Metro Vancouver area!

PS: I edited this to change the first line to read Poco Club members only as I figure it should matter to them only, if we have IDPA at PCDHFC.

Well, I goto DVC more than poco.

At $30bux a pop, I get 10x the range time with my own personal motorized target stand plus its close, warm and dry. Worth it imo.

That being said, I looked into lower mainland IDPA as well, Chilliwack is just too far of a drive for me to get to, especially on workdays.

I'm in for this.
 
I've not tried DVC yet, so I can't comment. But Poco is pretty cool for handgunners in that there are other smaller handgun-only ranges, and the main range is heated too, which is REALLY nice. Daycards at Poco are only $20 and I don't think there's a time limit. Or better still, become a member for just $130 and go just about anytime they're open!

Yeah, I looked around lower mainland for IDPA too and found that the only place available was Chilliwack, which just seems like too much of a drive.

have you thought about shooting the steel matches, IPSC matches, and the clubs Extream pistol matches that are put on at poco.

I did try steel shooting before. Found it interesting. IPSC just seems too extreme for me (Extreme pistol is the same as IPSC right?).
 
If I see "extreme pistol" used to describe IPSC anymore I'm going to puke.
The 1hr drive to shoot a match, any match is well worth it.

the pcdhfc extreme pistol is loosely worked around on ipsc but all the safety rules apply, the poco extreme pistol steel is just steel matches that match directors put on, both are not ipsc sanctioned

ipsc is not extreme,, its free style, run the course as slow or as fast as you want, its time and score. there are many classes of shooters so your always trying to get to the top of your class or the next, not to the top of some grand master that has way to much time on their hands :) and theres always lots of trophies handed out.

stay in production and just worry about your production gun and leave all the gimmicks behind,

follow the safety rules and its simple.

I agree, if you want to shoot a match of any sort, any drive is well worth it..

and yes Extreme pistol is not IPSC

I would love to have IDPA at PCDHF for the simple reason that it is my club and convenient for me as I live 12 minutes away. Chilly is more than an hour's drive and I have to pay toll.

I know an avid IDPA shooter who is a member at PoCo proposed IDPA at the club and even volunteered to run it. Somehow he just got a cold shoulder.

IDPA promises to be as much fun as IPSC without the need for the Black Badge course. I shot IPSC for 4 years back in the late 80s/early 90s, before moving to Canada and consider myself a safe gun handler. I don't think I need the Black Badge course to be safe so cannot motivate myself to pay $230 bucks to take it. As well, it will take less money equipment-wise to set yourself up for IDPA than IPSC. The IDPA courses of fire look like more fun to me, than the IPSC courses I shot 20 years ago.

I don't understand why PoCo is so resistant to introducing IDPA.
 
That's an idea John. I'm not sure why it cannot be done that way. It would not be a club-sanctioned event though, and the whole idea is to get it club-sanctioned to offer more to the members. At least that's my point of view.

To be fair, I'm pretty new to the club and shooting sports in general. I just wanted to try something else besides IPSC, and when I checked, noticed that it did not exist in poco, hence my poll.

I read about Black Badge and all that, but having never enquired, never knew that it costs $230 to get one! And IDPA has no such course requirements? That alone would be quite the motivator for me at least! I'd rather spend $230 on ammo!:D

Pats, yes, almost any drive is worth it. But why do it when I am a member of a club already? I would think the club would try to offer events to attract more members.

Please elaborate on this. Where's the money? The $230 fee for Black Badge? Match fees? Am I smelling BS here?

How much is at stake? Is the amount so great, or the greed so great, so as to deny the membership of one great way to enjoy our sport?

POCO has a Black Powder day, for goodness sakes! How many people shoot BP compared to those who shoot handguns and who are aching to do more than stand still while shooting.

Frankly, I am longing for the day I can holster my pistols and revolvers again. In fact, I often walk around my house with a holstered 1911 (no mag/unloaded of course...;)) just to feel the weight and the warmth:D, so much so the wife thinks I'm close to the brink. Bet I'm not the only one doing this.
 
$230 Where.

i know of 200 bucks, which also includes your IPSC membership, covered range, targets, tape , range rental, and Black badge material.

for some of the best fun with a pistol, 200 bucks is Penny's.
