IDPA/PPC at Spruce Grove Gun Club?

IDPA is club based...so there is no 'IDPA Alberta'.
If you want to get IDPA going at Spruce Grove (which is a stellar idea) you need to work it in at the club level.
There are lots of IDPA members in the south of the province that would come up and support your matches!
If you need any help, feel free to give me a shout.

I am looking at doing both IDPA and silhouette. It's looking like I am on my own so far... There is a small bore silhouette club but that's not something I want to do. I recall a post a few months back that said the silhouette club for adults disbanded years ago.

There are lots of Edmt based IDPA shooters. Up until recently, we all travelled to Olds to compete at MVMA. There was some interest around starting an IDPA leauge at SGGC a while ago. Now that Olds is not open, maybe an Edmt club will develope. I'm interested. One hurdle we faced was having an SGGC member who is IDPA SO certified.

Gotcha, well we have at least three members intersted. Looks like we need to meet certain essential criteria though. If any "SGGC member who is IDPA SO certified" wants to help out it'd be appreciated. Otherwise how does one achieve such status?

I haven't gotten my Black Badge yet and hope to get into some competitive action in the near future. The Wild Rose Action Shooters hold events at the Spruce Grove Gun Club and may be something you're interested in. There's a three gun match this weekend that I can't attend this weekend (Sunday, I think -which would have been my first).

Their Website is not well updated at this moment. I was there last year and they asked me if I wanted to try it out. A great group of guys. Bring your own gear/ammo as you may be able to borrow gear.

At the very least you could meet the guys and get a membership. Enjoy!

Scott

Not interested in 3 gun. Seems like the need for absolute safety sucks all the fun out of it. I am not tossing a $1200 shotgun into a garbage can before transitioning to rifle or pistol. Forgive my ignorance I have only youtube and poorly written articles to base my opinion off of...

Hey B,

Apparently there's some older forums in the action shooting category from Big Tex, and last fall there was some chitchat about guys trying to start some IDPA @ SGGC. Maybe the IDPA website has something?

My $0.02
(0.01$ from me and 0.01$ from my buddy)...

Thanks for the heads up. I will contact him. Hopefully he is still interested.

SO training/certification is provided by a Safety Officer Instructor. If you PM JimS (he is one of 2 SOIs in Alberta) he can advise you as to course availability/timing. He is willing to travel, so you may be able to get a group of guys together and have a course run at SGGC.

As MVMA is out of commission, we (guys who enjoy IDPA) really need other groups of shooters to take up the challenge of building clubs and hosting matches.

Good luck! It's a significant effort (getting a club going and putting on matches), but worth it.

I am no stranger to hard work. Shooting is my one and only hobby. I will contact "JimS" when I get things in order. I spend too much on guns to pay for courses right now, however this is something I have strong interest in! I have recieved PMs from other members as well. Maybe we can get this off the ground...?

IDPA Safety Officer courses are offerred free to our members. The only costs involved are travel and lodging expenses incurred by the instructor and are expected to be covered by the participants or the shooting club. IDPA Instructors are only allowed to charge for actual expenses incurred by rule.

PM sent.

Take Care

Looks like I am in over my head a bit. Luckily I have been contacted by some very knowledgable members. Anyone Interested in starting and IDPA league whether legit or informal please PM me. At the least I can set you off in the right direction.

I'm a SGGC member and a IDPA SO as well. Pm me if you want.

You have already been recommended:). Like I said I am in over my head. I am glad to provide any support I can but I am likely out of my league. I am a paper puncher at best with a strong interest in IDPA. If we can get this thing going I will provide any support I can. At the least I can network the members that have contacted me.

Still lots of PMs but no solid plan. Some insist on formal training from everyone looking to try it out before proceeding. I think this will squash the majority of interest... Canadian shooters can be pretty uptight it's sort of sad. I remember getting a taste of various disciplines at RDSSA with no qualifications whatsoever. If it weren't for a few douchebags I'd probably have plenty of competetive experience by now...
