I shot IDPA last season and last weekend I finished my Black Badge course. I am curious why it seems so many are opposed to one or the other? Yes the two have differences I get that . I am curious why there seems to be such a huge divide. Am I an oddball because I happen to enjoy both and see benefits from both?

I enjoy both. Too bad that certain personality types sometimes ruin the enjoyment factor from time to time. But that goes for any organized sport.

Lots of threads about this. I do neither because of my location but will be in the future. My take from scanning threads is, 1 is more competitive and fixed stage progressions the other is more relaxed and allows you to plot your own route through the stage.
I'm sure I will be told different but in layman's terms, that's what I've taken from the threads.

Quite true. Any issues between them that elevate beyond good natured ribbing or personal preference are virtually entirely attributable to personality or politics.

This coud easily be a football vs. rugby thread.

Two different games.

Like one, both or neither. Your choice.

To be honest.....IDPA lost me mostly when they invented tiger teams and unilaterally decided are SOs outside of the US had to recertify. For an organization with the word "international" in their title, they seemed awfully biased against people outside the USA.

Both are still a lot of fun...some of the best matches I have ever shot were IDPA state matches...I shoot far more IPSC these days simply because there are so many matches close to home. I've got 4-5 IPSC clubs within 35 minutes of my house.

Matt this is not true. All the SO's had to re-certify not just those outside the US, and all SO|'s have to re-certify every two years. It is just an open book exam. but it must be passed to retain certification. The sport is US centric, that there is no argument for. The sport is based in the US, south the the Mason Dickson line. You are not the only one who might question the use of tiger teams for the sport. Most camels arise from committees established to design horses.

My own preference is IDPA, and shooting with a fantastic group of guys makes it even better.

An example of one of several myths I have heard over the years.

I joined IPSC because of the many match's. Will shoot Cowboy if it close to home. Trap if it is sunny. Want to try PPC when I can. Did IDPA years ago. Gun games are gun games.

Both are great sports and are fun to shoot.

Yes Matt it was the International AC's and all the SOI's, including the US SOI's. It was all part of HQ's reorganization plan. I will leave it to history to tell us if much was accomplished inside and outside of the US. It is what it is and we soldier on. I am enjoying my retirement.

All the best,

Bob

It's a funny way to run an 'association' that has the word 'international' right in it's title.

The way she runs things, 'business' and 'American colonial' seems more accurate.

The ACDPB.
