Hello, I got my black badge last month and shoot a few IPSC matches. Now I want to try something different to shoot IDPA. I just want to know does anyone have any ideas about can I join IDPA with my black badge? I checked the IDPA website and I cannot find any matches in the calendar. so i am just curious where do you guys find IDPA matchs. Thanks!

I live in Ontario. do I need to take other courses to join IDPA?

I'm in BC, so cant help you on finding matches. The clubs out here offer an optional "new IDPA shooter" course, but it's only $40 and a day long. All participants go through an assessment of their ability to safely shoot from a holster before participating. Good luck finding a club!

You have a choice of 3 clubs.

Sharon Gun Club in Sharon - 1:35
Target Sports in Gormley - 1:25
ESSA in Aylmer 1:15

Make contact with them to get the info.

The rules are quite different from IPSC, as is the gear. Study the rule book. :)

and you can quit practicing now too......but don't lick the windows of the bus, you never know who licked it before you.......

You can join IDPA directly from the IDPA website; no course is required. Once you've joined IDPA you can shoot it.

I checked the IDPA website and I cannot find any matches in the calendar. so i am just curious where do you guys find IDPA matches.

I go to the IDPA website then select 'CLUBS' in the menu before clicking on 'ALL CLUBS'; the 'IDPA Clubs' page will load. Use the search boxes (on the left) to refine your search (i.e.: country, province/state/, locality) before clicking on 'UPDATE RESULTS >'. Boom! There you go, there are your clubs. Each club profile will include a link or links to the respective club (sometimes with an online calendar, sometimes just an email address). From there you can contact the respective club(s). As a member of IDPA, you are entitled to participate in an IDPA match.

N.B.: You'll be interested in finding and shooting an 'IDPA classifier' as soon as possible, because having a current classification is a pre-requisite for larger matches.

I was just making fun lol, IDPA is a fun game too, I prefer IPSC, but that's just me. Shoot what you like and have fun

I think it'd be really cool if all of the best IPSC shooters would come out to try IDPA. If IDPA is as retarded as many IPSC shooters imply, they should really clean up. After that, if they still want to post about how retarded are most IDPA shooters, they can do it as an IDPA 'Distinguished Master', a title which would give them some real credibility.

Really i don’t have anything against IDPA, i like poking the occasional joke to stir the pot, but...

One of my major pet peeves, and the reason i haven’t participated more, is cover, too subjective as it’s to the discretion of the RO.
To be truly competitive, you cannot have that level of subjectivity.
One shooter may be half exposed while being comfortable for solid hits, the other may be more covered and still be yapped COVER COVER at, and be in a really streched out position, which is harder to make good shots.

IPSC got that right with fault lines, as they force you behind cover if they want to, and for an equal way for all shooter.

This is news to me about IPSC critizing IDPA. I hope it’s false because it’s just another discipline in our great sport which should be supported.

You are so out of touch with IDPA.

Cover is gone and fault lines are in.

Much of the criticism is based on ignorance. Truth be told, IDPA folks make fun of how seriously IPSC folks take themselves but our clubs get along just fine in the end.

Exactly.

For folks in the Lower Mainland, Rob is a decent teacher. If you want to improve he might be a guy who can help move you along.

Take Care

When i tried it, it was really like i just mentioned.
Yes i will give it to you, sports evolve, and if IDPA evolved in that direction i think it’s a step in the good direction.
I dropped my membership at the range that had IDPA for other reasons, now my memberships are IPSC and Service Rifle focused.
So haven’t talked to the guys practicing the sport for about 4 years now.
