If a Ruger 10/22 RB .22lr is the base line for .22lr semi-auto reliability and accuracy in the field, not on the range, then what is its bolt action equivalent?

Thanks in advance.

Field or range, if you are thinking of current production 22LR bolties, my vote goes to the Savage MKI/II, which is the Lakefield MKI/II design that Savage continued when they bought Lakefield in the mid-90s (please correct me if I am wrong).

The 10/22s and Savage MKIIs are both cheap to buy therefore are popular and plentiful. They seem to be the common benchmarks by which others in their genre are compared to, for semi-auto reliability and bolt-action accuracy. Both have inexpensive "base models" all the way to mid-price "deluxe models". They offer something for almost everyone but the most discriminating .22 shooter.

I would agree with the MkII being a good base line. Solid dependable rifles and lots of them out there. I also heard that the Lakefield plant is now the leading rimfire rifle manufacturer in the world as of this year, that should mean something!

The Marlin 880/980 series and lakefield Mk II. But its alot harder to screw up a bolt action, and most of them will perform well enough.
