Looks like a P38 but somebody stole the barrel.. If i want something short,, why not a Beretta 1934?? Lighter, sleeker, am I missing something?? P38 is a great gun but,, not as a shorty.. like a P08 without a barrel, like,, ,, a beautiful car with only one headlight in the middle!!!

HA, Cool My "Small Arms of The World" book just arrived and I read about that about an hour ago. They made a 2.75" bbl version of the P38 durring WW2 so you're project has already been undertaken by the origonal manufacturers

Take a standard P-38, put a full length slide around the barrel... you pretty much have an early Beretta 92 don't you?
