IF a new Grizzly hunt, what gun

I believe
BC--- 50/60 % of getting back a G hunt
Why-- It sounds like the folks there wanna wait till 8 yards and then defend . This will bring more casualties and more news . So more pressure to re-introduce ..LOL
AB --- 15 % of getting back the hunt
Why---the folks here are ready to shoot a little sooner eg: 80/100 yards . Will have fewer casualties and therefore less news .
All in fun
I have enjoyed this thread . Learned alot

I believe your parents or social workers allowed you more computer time. Take your meds, helps lotsa folks.

the cos here are using 22 magnum when the sow will it be grizzly or black bear got a tag on each ears ... some are not even scared of gunshots ...

From what I've seen, problem bears often wear collars meaning they've been trapped before.

People need to stop being scared of what will happen to them if they do, and get serious about what will happen to them if they don’t imo. A bear is covering up to 15 yards a second. You and I can decide how many more seconds we want to live. Not gatehouse.

worth repeating, great post

Hopefully folks uncomfortable with grizzlies stay home more than those who are used to living with them, this seems to be the trend in BC. I cannot speak for elsewhere as much. Gotta feel for the bears when this is the mentality they face when people go out. If we had shot every grizzly in camp or acting assertively I’d have been shut out of grizzly hunting completely.

Small miracle scores of people use the BC backcountry unarmed every year and aren’t dying in hordes. We fly rescue at the day job, have never responded to a bear attack yet in BC or heard a story from another pilot here. Once in Alberta, juvenile black bear. Responded to lots of people that badly needed a lot of things they didn’t pack, including insulin just last week. A gun has yet to be one of them.

I like guns, and like having one when afield, they’re a confidence inspiring tool. But I’ve packed rum and spray in its place before too recently in a return to my old grizz rivers. It’s hard to shoot one at a hundred yards with spray, I use the gun the same as spray, imminent danger only. That isn’t found at 100 yards.

Truth. The ignorance is hard to truly imagine. Yet it still exists.

No bear whisperer on the Internet is going to look after you the moment your life is in danger.
And no I’m not staying home because there is a remote chance I might have to kill a bear protecting myself. That’s ridiculous.
I find it interesting that those with the most hard nosed, large calibre Africanesque type bear stopping rifle opinions have no intention to use it when they are placed in a dangerous situation.

Most hikers, tree planters, and other non-hunting back country users are so noisy that surprise bear encounters are minimal. Hunters not-so. Not good ones anyways. They are also best equipped to deal with such. Phew!

Id go with my sbl 45/70 with hsm 405 grain brar loads, the "snow plow" of 45/70 rounds lol.Im not sure how tough Grizzlies are but Id want to bring enough gun and bullet to the occasion.
