If Darth Vader ever had a bicycle

Was the bike badly rust pitted prior to restoration, or is the original finish a type of sanded crinkle finish? I;ve never seen an original in nice condition to know what it's supposed to look like.

The stipple like pitting was the product of a couple decades post war outside then the seller decided to clean it up for sale, from the factory it would not have been pitted and been painted semi gloss black. When it arrived (just a bare frame and fork and a heap of random parts) I intended on sand blasting then body fill but the more I looked at it the more " the (barnfind) look" grew on me.......plus it just plain looks cooler. I honestly think the HMV community go a little over board pursuing "perfect" paint and keeping vehicles super clean.
