If for some reason you could only have three rifles what would they be and why? after thinking about it for few minutes, my choice came down to my 338 winchester model 70 super grade for the big critters, a 308 winchester in a model seven remington stainless steel for general use and abuse. and a 22 long rifle in a cz 452 for small game.

Savage mlII muzzle loader ( That gun has put more meat in my freezer than anything I've ever owned)

17 HMR in any of the good bolt action configurations out there

7mm rem mag in a new rifle that is coming in the near future

~ T/C Encore Stainless .50 cal
~ Sako 85 Stainless Synthetic 7mm mag
~ Tikka T3 Camo Stainless .22-250

If I could pick four of them, then I would throw in the Ruger 96/22M .22mag

Well, there's a few ways I could answer this. The first is with the choice of 3 different cartridges each chambered in a bolt action sporter: say a .222, a .30/06, and a .458.

But another way is to allow handloading to provide the versatility rather than different chambers and have 3 role specific rifles all chambered for the same cartridge, probably a .30/06. There would be a short handy CRF bolt action carbine with a variable low power scope like a 1-4X in QD rings and ghost ring and post irons. Next is a standard full length CRF bolt action rifle with say a 25" medium contour sporter barrel, and a medium variable power rifle scope like a 1.5-8X. My ZG-47 fills that one nicely. And finally a heavy barrel target rifle based on a 700 style action bedded into a fully adjustable stock and topped with a high magnification scope.

Another option would be to have a military style gas gun say an M-1 Garand, a scoped bolt action CRF sporter, and a heavy barrel target gun all chamberd for the .30/06.

22lr T-bolt
223 Stevens
7mm Rem Mag M-70.

This would mean I'd have to forgo bird hunting (unless you're not considering a shotgun to fall under this limit), and very large game hunting (which I don't do anyway).

Only three!! Even here in the land that brought about Allen Rock, Heaven Forbid!! However, likely I'd go with;

1st, my old custon Winchester high Wall in 219 Donaldson Wasp. Long range Varmints & Preds

2nd, my favorite 30 cal, my model 65DL Schultz & Larsen in 308 Norma Magnum. One that will and has done well on Deer, Moose and Bear.

3rd, and for the opportunity or possibility where I ;)may have the chance at the bigger more dangerous game, my model 70 Winchester Super Express in 458 Winchester Magnum.
